KCRW WELCOMES THE 88 & THE DEARS

In case you missed their stop off at KCRW last week!

LOCKSLEY BACKS KINKS LEGEND

LOCKSLEY HITS THE STAGE AND
BACKS KINKS LEGEND RAY DAVIES
Brooklyn-Based Garage Pop Outfit Selected To Back Ray Davies On Stage 12-City US Tour

Brooklyn, NY - Feature Records announced today Locksley will have the honor of backing rock legend Ray Davies while he performs classic Kinks hits during his 12-city US tour! The tour, which will start in Tampa, FL on November 28th, will highlight the release of Locksley's debut record "Don't Make Me Wait" recently released to critical acclaim. In addition to backing Ray Davies, the band will also be performing a full set as main support for the tour.

Currently on a national headlining tour for MTV's Choose or Lose campaign, Locksley is extremely active in voicing the importance of political involvement and awareness. "I think voting isn't even important, it's imperative," said Kai Kennedy of Locksley. "It's our right that people died for to give to us. Exercising that right is the most patriotic thing that anyone can do." The tour is the latest installment of "Choose or Lose's" ongoing campaign to raise awareness and support for America's young military veterans issues.

Without the support of a major label system the band was able to accomplish unprecedented success based on the merit of their songwriting, landing highly coveted spots on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Kimmel Live as well as placement of their hit single My Kind Of Lover in J.J. Abrams' much anticipated Cloverfield. They were also awarded the honor of composing Why Can't I Be You for the MTV show of the same name and the track's music video won mtvU's The Freshman. On the strength of the band's appeal and in an unprecedented move, MTV featured Locksley as Artist of The Week for two consecutive weeks in the month of September 2008.

LET'S GIVE EM SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT

November 4, 2008 // Toronto, ON – Fresh off a three-week run in the U.S. with Broken Social Scene, Montreal trio Land of Talk have announced additional Fall tour dates in North America and beyond in support of their debut full-length, Some Are Lakes. The album, which hit stores earlier this month via Saddle Creek in America and Secret City distribution in Canada, has been garnering glowing reviews, along with their performances. Dates continue starting Thursday night in Winnipeg, MB and run through December 12 in London, UK (compete dates below).

Some high praise for Some Are Lakes:

"[Some Are Lakes] casts its own illumination, intense yet rarely harsh" - New York Times

"[On Some Are Lakes] the spotlight stays on charismatic Elizabeth Powell, who grinds out chunky guitar noise as she attacks the mic with a slow-burn drawl that suggests Lucinda Williams fronting a power trio." – Spin (4 out of 5 stars)

"Powell is no mere singer-songwriter dressing herself up in rock-trio cliché: She really seems to think, feel, sleep, and reason in the language of rock 'n' roll." - Village Voice

"Canadian trio evolve past the jagged noise of their debut EP in favor of subversive melodies, all with foxy Elizabeth Powell at the helm." - Rolling Stone

VAN MORRISON AT THE BOWL!

LIVE CONCERT WEBCAST on KCRW.com Van Morrison at the Hollywood Bowl Friday, November 7 at 8pm

This is the first ever international webcast from the Hollywood Bowl and the first time Van Morrison has allowed a live concert broadcast

KCRW.com will make history on Friday, November 7 by providing the first-ever live concert webcast from the Hollywood Bowl, featuring a show by legendary singer Van Morrison. The Santa Monica-based public radio station will broadcast a 45-minute set of timeless classics by the Rock and Roll Hall of famer.

While the KCRW library hosts an extensive catalogue by Van Morrison, this is the first time the station has collaborated with the artist. The show will be presented in conjunction with Listen To The Lion Films & www.vanmorrison.com. They will be recording the second half of the concert for the upcoming release “Astral Weeks Live At The Hollywood Bowl.” His band that night will feature the original musicians, bassist Richard Davis and guitarist Jay Berliner, who played on his classic album Astral Weeks. This is the 40-year anniversary of the album’s release.

Unlike most KCRW-produced content, the show will NOT be archived so viewers will have to tune in on Friday, November 7 at 8pm to catch it live.

“All of the music directors at KCRW have a personal relationship with Van’s music and it has been a thread throughout the history of the station,” said Morning Becomes Eclectic producer Ariana Morgenstern. “KCRW has a long history with both the Hollywood Bowl and this artist so it seemed like a natural fit to bring this concert to the largest audience possible,” said

KCRW recently celebrated the 10-year anniversary of our World Festival at the Hollywood Bowl. It is also the place where this idea was hatched -- Ariana Morgenstern was introduced to concert promoter Bill Silva while watching Radiohead in August and this collaboration was born out of their conversation that night.

Bill Silva Presents has produced over 10,000 events from small clubs to major stadiums all over the world, including such prodigious talents as Simon & Garfunkel, The Police, Madonna, Nirvana, Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan.

Morrison's career, spanning some five decades, has influenced many popular musical artists and he is consistently ranked among the best songwriters of all time. Watch a set of his timeless music from the comfort of your own home and portable player on KCRW.com, Friday, November 7. Find the show at http://www.kcrw.com/vanmorrisonlive. Full screen viewing will be available.

STATE OF THE UNION

David Ford is coming to SoCal, with his guitar, piano, and pedals. He’s a poignant songwriter that creates a wall of sound through loops and intense delivery . If you’ve yet to see David live, check out his action on youtube.

He’s also written a new song, you can hear on his Myspace page “I Want More (How I Learned To Stop Worrying About My Credit Cards)”, that speaks volumes about the current attitude and economic pulse.

He’s playing at House of Blues in Anaheim on 11/4, and the El Ray in LA on 11/6.

Check out David singing his song 'State Of The Union.'

RAY OF LIGHT

Last Thursday I was honored to be invited to see one of my favorite favorite favorite singer/songwriters of this day and age. Ray Lamontagne played the first of two nights at The Wiltern in Los Angeles.

He is truly one of the most magical folk singers around. From the opening number to the very last song, I had goosebumps all they way through. Ray hardly spoke to the crowd except to graciously thank everyone for coming. He didn't need to say much, I was there to hear him sing, and sing he did! It didn't seem to upset the fans much either, because they continued to go APE throughout his set.

I am not really familiar with his current album GOSSIP IN THE GRAIN, but he did sing quite a bit from his older albums, including my faves 'Trouble', 'Shelter', 'Jolene' and 'All The Wild Horses.' His lyrics so rich and full of heart, combined with the rasp of his voice, creates a truly magical experience that can only be described as the "Ray experience."
