30 SECONDS TO MARS SIGN NEW WORLDWIDE DEAL WITH EMI MUSIC'S VIRGIN RECORDS

HIGHLY ANTICIPATED THIRD ALBUM, PRODUCED BY FLOOD, DUE THIS FALL

NEW ALBUM IS THE FOLLOW-UP TO MULTI-PLATINUM SMASH A BEAUTIFUL LIE

EMI Music's Virgin Records is pleased to announce that it has signed a new worldwide deal with Los Angeles rock band 30 Seconds to Mars.

30 Seconds to Mars, fronted by vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Jared Leto, is currently in the studio in Los Angeles recording their third album with acclaimed producer Flood, known for his work with U2, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, and Smashing Pumpkins. Due this fall, the as-yet-untitled album is the follow-up to 2005's platinum-selling A Beautiful Life, which sold more than three million albums and singles worldwide and spawned two Top 10 Modern Rock singles, "From Yesterday" and "The Kill." The latter set a radio record for the longest-running hit in the history of Modern Rock radio play when it remained on the national airplay chart for more than 50 weeks following its No. 3 peak in 2006. "From Yesterday" was the band's first No. 1 at the format. Its epic video was the first American music video ever shot in the People's Republic of China.

30 Seconds to Mars' new album is a collection of the thoughts and ideas that the band (which also includes drummer Shannon Leto and guitarist Tomo Mili?evi?) have experienced after spending several years on the road. The songs reflect a willingness to take chances and create a pivotal, game-changing album. As Flood recently told Billboard.com: "These guys wanted to move into a different place and that's always a big challenge. They had established themselves very firmly in one arena when Jared first talked to me. It was about trying to make a 'classic album,' and that's by pushing themselves and me to a place that you may not have expected to go, so it requires truth, honesty, and a lot of hard work. Those sorts of things I find very rewarding."

"It's great to finally move forward and focus on what's most important to us all- the music," says Jared Leto. "We are excited about starting over with the many talented people at Virgin/EMI, and to sharing our new music with the fans in the very near future. We will never forget the unrelenting support from all our friends, family, and fans around the world."

"We are thrilled to have set aside our differences and signed a new agreement with 30 Seconds to Mars," says Nick Gatfield, EMI Music's President of A&R Labels - North America & the UK. "Our relationship has been extremely rewarding and successful, and we're eager to move forward and put our global team to work on the brilliant new album they are recording with Flood."

"I am excited to be a part of 30 Seconds to Mars' next chapter," says Rob Stevenson, President of Virgin A&R Labels. "Not only are they one of the most important bands in rock music today, but I admire their commitment to the online world. It has made them digital pioneers in terms of reaching fans where they live and breathe music."

Formed by Jared and Shannon Leto in 1998, 30 Seconds to Mars have won numerous awards and accolades, including an MTV Video Music Award, three MTV EMA, an MTV Latin and Asia Award, a Fuse Award, and three Kerrang! awards. They have nearly 500 live performances under their belts since the release of A Beautiful Life, which has earned them a growing, loyal, global fan base. The band is also known as one of the world's most progressive online. Their fans - dubbed The Echelon - participate in both band and charity-driven activities. Thirty Seconds to Mars now boast more than 28 million plays on MySpace, more than one million fans on iLike/Facebook and have received more than 100 million views on YouTube.

FIGHT CHILDHOOD CANCER - TOMORROW!

This Thursday, April 30, Silversun Pickups and Eulogies will perform at a very special benefit for Pablo Castelaz and The Pablove Foundation, at the Echoplex in Los Angeles. Tickets are on sale now for $25 via TicketWeb. Purchase will be limited to two tickets per customer and ONLY available through online purchase, with a scheduled will-call pick-up (No walk-ups). All proceeds will directly benefit The Pablove Foundation (pablove.org), named after Pablo Castelaz, the five-year-old son of Dangerbird Records co-founder Jeff Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill.

On May 17, 2008, Pablo was diagnosed with bilateral Wilms’ Tumor, a rare form of children’s cancer, and has been receiving treatment at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (childrenshospitalla.org).

The Pablove Foundation supports cancer research and cancer patient play activities, music and arts programs. Recently, The Pablove Foundation funded a year of evening and weekend hours in the play room on the fourth floor soft tumor units at CHLA. These ‘units’ are actually an entire floor of the hospital, which is filled with brave, beautiful children at any time of the year. This play room brings immeasurable joy to the heart of a child whose life has been turned upside down in the face of a life-threatening disease and whose world has temporarily been reduced to a small hospital room.

The Pablove Foundation also plans to contribute to cancer research and treatment at CHLA, including the efforts of CHLA’s Saban Research Institute, one of the top cancer research facilities in the United States.

This extraordinary evening will offer select items for sale to help commemorate the night and give back to the above noted charities. In addition to an exclusive, limited edition t-shirt, Give. Listen. Help. Volume 5, will be available for purchase. The two-disc benefit compilation CD was released earlier this year by Filter and Urban Outfitters and features an impressive collection of unique material from some of today’s most recognizable artists including Radiohead, Bloc Party, Oasis, as well as the Dangerbird Records roster. Each CD purchase will be accompanied with a free poster, crafted specifically in honor of the evening.

We are fighting for Pablo Castelaz and kids everywhere. Join us! The Pablove Foundation: Fighting childhood cancer with LOVE.

MORE NEW MUSIC FROM YESTERDAY!!

Yesterday, indie-pop Ben Lee dropped his 4th full-length studio album 'The Rebirth of Venus'. With a mixture of acoustic, electronic sounds, and whimsical lyrics is a bit of a departure from his past recordings that give off a more singer/songwriter feel. I'm not saying that he has lost that, just added some fun elements to his new sound. If you haven't checked out this Sydney based songster, he will be headlining at the Troubadour in West Hollywood this Thursday night with opening act.....yes....LOW VS DIAMOND! If you can't make it, shame on you, but look out for photos and a review of the show, it's guaranteed to be an amazing night.

ABSOLUTES-LY BARCELONA

You would think that by name, this group would hail from, well, Barcelona, but you and myself are wrong. The Seattle, Washington trio just released their 3rd album since 2000! This vocally emo-rock album proves to us that they still have it, and are now ready to share. You can validate this by checking out their video of their first single 'It's About Time'. They will be headlining, one of my favorite local spots, the Troubadour in West Hollywood May 7th, just a few shows from kicking off their US tour which starts in Texas. So take a break from what you are doing, whether it's work or play, and check them out: www.myspace.com/barcelona

NEW MUSIC TUESDAY!!

The official video for Pilot Speed's "Put The Phone Down" is now out! It's the first single from their upcoming album, WOODEN BONES, which hits stores April 28th. Preorder the album on iTunes http://tinyurl.com/cf9una - and then enter your Apple ID for a free signed poster: http://tinyurl.com/cc4ouh

Here are a few words from Chris from the band:

"Here's the brand new video for "Put The Phone Down". I think it's safe to say it's our most ambitious video to date....and easily the craziest day of shooting we've ever seen, what with tons of actors, a few select fans, and Todd in full stuntman mode. It was lovingly directed here in Toronto by Christopher Mills (Modest Mouse, Broken Social Scene, Interpol, etc, etc).
As for what it all means, and just what is going on in this crazy surreal world the band has stumbled into, we'll leave that for you to decide.... it may take a few viewings! Let us know what you think."

KCRW WELCOMES GREAT NORTHERN

Great Northern stopped by for an in-studio session on Morning Becomes Eclectic. If you haven't watched this sesion, check it out! And don't forget to pick up REMIND ME WHERE THE LIGHT IS...OUT TODAY!!

James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Taylor Hanson (Hanson), Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne) and Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick) talk to ShockHound about their new group. ONE NIGHT IN SYDNEY...

...okay so I wasn't really in Sydney, Australia again on Thursday but I pretended to be. You know my love for Oz and everything that comes with it, including my current obsession (no not the movie Obsessed with Beyonce)but with Angus & Julia Stone! I thought I was lucky just to see them perform a few weeks ago, opening for Brett Dennon, but to my surprise and excitement they announced a few dates of their own, headlining in a few cities and one night in Los Angeles at on of my favorite venues, The Troubadour. Of course I was probably one of the first to buy a ticket once I found out, and they put on a show that far exceeded my expectations. The combination of vocals, lyrics, trumpets, trombones and harmonicas filled the room with their intense yet sweet songs of lost loves, life, and happiness. They even provided us a cover of Chumbawamba's one hit 'Tubthumping', which was a funny and unexpected surprise.

They did, however, announce that they were headed back home, this being their last show in the states, to take a break, relax before tackling some more writing, recording, and performances. As sad as that makes me, I am lucky enough to have seen them 3 times in the last month, and I anticipate what they have in store for us in the future, and, of course, to see their lovely faces again.

If you still have yet to hear this amazing Brother and Sister duo, please stop what you are doing and check them out www.myspace.com/angusandjuliastone

Make sure you check out some of my favorite tunes 'The Beast', 'Hollywood', 'Just a Boy', and 'Mango Tree'. You will fall in love at first listen, and be hooked. We will miss you while you are away Angus and Julia, but we know you will be producing something wonderful to bring back to us, and hopefully soon!!
