THIS WEEKS NEWS!

A few great things happened this week in music and for musicbleep. For starters, two of our favorite collaborators released two new albums; the National and the New Pornographers. Both very different, but both sets of artists have one thing in common, they are collaborators. This will be the New Pornographer's 5th studio release, but this does not compare to their other collaborative efforts [Dark Was the Night]. For the National (one of my favorite bands), this will be their 6th studio release, and, like the Pornographers, they collaborate quite a bit, including spear-heading the success of the 'Dark Was the Night's double CD masterpiece.

I have had the opportunity to listen to both albums for quite some time now, and I have to say that I think that it is both their finest. I do have my nostalgic pieces from previous records, and I do hold them close to me, but they both stepped it up and proved it to me and music that they are established and here to stay. From strong compelling lyrics and melodies, whether dark or bright, as these two bands are so different, but have so much in common.

Stay up to date with musicbleep as we will be doing a full review of both the National and the New Pornographers when they are in LA as well as.....(more news!!!)....

YELLOW BIRD PROJECT

A week or so ago, I was at the troubadour with two of my best friends, and thanks to the iPhone, they showed me a website and charity that I was unaware of. It is called the Yellow Bird Project. It is an organization where independent artists like Bon Ivar, Bloc Party, Grizzly Bear, The National, The Shins, TV on the Radio, and many more, design a T-shirt and all the proceeds to to a charity of the band's choice. It is an amazing organization and website full of information and amazing, rare merchandise, so everybody wins; you get a cool shirt and a charity gets some money, you can't go wrong. Check out a little information about Yellow Bird Project below and go to their website listed at the end of this post. Thank you Zak and Kristen for introducing Musicbleep to this amazing site!

  1. To raise money for charities directly through the barter and trade of our fab tee-shirts. Unfortunately we no longer accept goats; money proved to be an easier currency to store.
  2. To raise awareness for charity organizations and their aims through artists’ endorsement. YBP is a very different venue for these charities. It brings in a lot of younger people and encourages philanthropy from treble and bass clefts. It is definitely more work to have multiple charities, rather than one fund, but we think it allows the artists to pick something that is truly important to them.
  3. To raise the profile of artists we like. We by no means want to or presume to have the ability to make artists into marketed machines and different versions of Ms. Spears, but we want to help raise their profiles and get them the attention that they deserve. We hope YBP can in some way help artists and music to prosper, and in turn help those less fortunate.
