WHEN CULTURE'S COLLIDE

LOS ANGELES, CA - FILTER Magazine's Culture Collide Festival is bringing bands from all over the world to one of the planet's most vibrant music scenes, Los Angeles, for a multicultural weekend-long melting pot of musical excellence. Showcases will take place on October 7, 8 and 9 at Spaceland, the Echo, Echoplex and The Standard, Downtown LA with a block party on October 10 presented by Toyota Antics to celebrate the weekend's festivities.

Each participating country (including Norway, Spain, Israel, Poland, Germany, Sweden and more) will bring two of its artists to Los Angeles to partner up with an established American band for the showcase. These U.S. bands, along with FILTER Magazine, will act as ambassadors throughout the festival and take the international artists under their wings to share information about playing the States and compare notes about creating music.

"We felt it was about time L.A. had its own international festival," said Alan Miller, co-owner and co-founder of FILTER Magazine. "We have seen so many amazing bands and customs in our travels around the world. Our goal is to bring it all back to L.A. and create something really special." Throughout the week, the streets of Los Angeles will become a multicultural cacophony of international music, food, drink and fun.

FILTER Magazine's Culture Collide Festival is sponsored by VTech, Dickies, Spy, BMI, Guitar Center, mike's HARD PUNCH™, Red Bull, Converse and The Standard, Downtown LA.

Participating countries include The Netherlands, Iceland, Finland, U.K., Norway, Spain, Israel, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Canada and many more to be announced.

Promotional and charity partners include LA Weekly, 826, and the City of Echo Park, in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles.

ROCKIN' THE JUKEBOX

Sophomore releases. They used to be a daunting obstacle for a band to overcome. Living up to the first impressions you left on your listeners ears and catching up with all the music that came out during the time that you "took off." That is unless you are Philadelphia's Jukebox the Ghost.

Armed with their new record Everything Under the Sun produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National, Fanfarlo) and set for release on September 7th via Yep Roc the band combines their adept skills as individual musicians, tirelessly energetic live sets and pulsating catchy lyrics. The record's debut track, "Empire" is best described by vocalist/keyboardist Ben Thornwell as: " ...an extended metaphor of the heart as a castle, A keep is defined as 'The Stronghold of a Castle' thus, 'My heart, is my keep and you are threatening me.' And the truth is that an empire, as is love, is hard to keep peaceful."

Since their 2008 debut, Let Live and Let Ghosts, which SPIN called, "a refreshing reminder that the lighthearted electricity of a fantastic pop song is still filled with live wires," the band has kept themselves busy. After playing over 300 shows with the likes of Ben Folds, Adam Green and Ra Ra Riot the band, which is made up of vocalist/pianist Ben Thornewill, vocalist/guitarist Tommy Siegel and drummer Jesse Kristin spent countless hours constructing and arranging songs until they reached their full potential.

Whether they were touring, rehearsing in basements, houses, hotel rooms or hanging out in the studio the creative process never stopped, making Everything Under the Sun a record that not only showcases this band's songwriting prowess but also their infectious energy.

WORLD PREMIERE VIDEO - THE POSTELLES

Hailing from Manhattan's Upper West Side, The Postelles, a quartet just in their early 20's, have been busy winning over fans and critics alike the past two years at club shows and festival appearances around the globe, including this month's Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. With a sound that comes equally influenced by 50's doo-wop and swaggering garage rock, the band is now readying the release of their highly-anticipated self-titled debut album, co-produced with the Strokes' guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., on Astralwerks/Capitol Records this October 12th.
