THE WAIT IS OVER!

Yay - we finally made it to Saturday!! The Hotel Cafe rolls into town tonight and I'm soooo excited to see each and every person on the bill.

All these singer/songwriter superstars in one room! Scheduled to appear: Ingrid Michaelson, Cary Brothers, Meiko, Priscilla Ahn, Greg Laswell, Jessie Baylin, Jesca Hoop, William Fitzsimmons and Jim Bianco. Apparently each act runs about 20-minutes in a constant rotation. I will have a full report with pictures tomorrow!

ANOTHER ARTIST CHECKS IN...

Remember this commercial from last fall? I remember going nuts trying to figure out who the lucky lady was to score the Old Navy campaign. A singer/songwriter from New York was the one with the GOLDEN TICKET!

Ingrid Michaelson's career exploded a few weeks after her song played over and over, advertising those warm Old Navy sweaters. Old Navy took Ingrid to new heights and jump started her career. Most notably, Ingrid was able to showcase her music for the millions of fans that tune in to watch Grey's Anatomy each week. Michaelson's music was chosen for the soundtrack and for scenes throughout the show.

Finally, I get the opportunity to check Ingrid out for myself. Michaelson is one of the artists on the lineup for the Hotel Cafe tour that hits LA this weekend. Tickets for Saturdays show are SOLD OUT, but there should be some tickets available for Sundays show at the El Rey.

THE HOTEL CAFE TOUR 2008

Just a few more days and The Hotel Cafe tour hits Los Angeles! I am so excited because there are so many amazing amazing artists on this bill. If you haven't yet gotten your ticket - GET THEM NOW!! Saturdays show at the Fonda is already sold out. Tickets are still available for Sundays show at the El Rey, so ACT FAST FOLKS!

For the past 4 years, The Hotel Café has been presenting a tour that has hit every major market in the United States and UK. The concept of the tour was to share the same community vibe with music fans all over the country. Artists performed solo and would then share the stage with fellow tour mates. No cookie cutter corporate American Idols, just real music, written by real artists, surrounded by real friends, who actually have a story to tell.

Each city on the 2005 tour featured different headliners and local heroes. MySpace produced 25,000 compilation CDs, which were distributed for free to fans that attended the concert. Artists helped to create a certain intimacy by personally greeting the audience after the shows, even when venue sizes were as large as 2,500 seaters.

Starting in March 2008, The Hotel Café Tour embarked on another journey that covered 35+ major markets in the North America, before heading over to the United Kingdom and making it’s entry into Europe and Japan!

BOY JUST WANTS TO HAVE FUN

As I mentioned earlier - the Hotel Cafe Tour is finally upon us. It hits Los Angeles this weekend, kicking off on Saturday, April 12th at the Henry Fonda Theater and April 13th at the El Rey.

One singer/songwriter on the bill is a guy by the name of Greg Laswell. I have been fortunate enough to catch Greg a few times at the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, so it's going to be no surprise how fantastic he will be! You gotta check out his version of Cindi Lauper's 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' - it's so RAD!

He is just one of the amazing artists scheduled to hit the stage this weekend. If you can't make it out - check out the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. He plays there quite a bit.

HILLS PICK OF THE NIGHT

A few months back I was sitting in a movie theater on Fairfax waiting for some 3 buck movie to begin. As I was waiting for the flick, this song began to play throughout the theater. I was instantly drawn to this song and did everything I could to figure out who was singing. Anyway, months went by and I finally figured out that it was Cary Brothers.

If you watched The Hills last night, 'Who You Are' by Cary Brothers was playing when LC stopped by People's Revolution to have lunch with Whitney. This Saturday I've got tickets to the Hotel Cafe Tour at the Henry Fonda featuring Cary Brothers.

What a perfect week to feature Cary Brothers as the Hills Pick of The Night! I will have more details and a full show report on Cary, along with others this weekend after the Hotel Cafe Tour. In the meantime, listen to 'Ride', which was the song I was desperately seeking and 'Who You Are', played last night on The Hills.

LOOK MOM NO HANDELBARS...

I want you all to hear this song I played non stop this weekend. I heard it so much I obviously had to write about it today. The band is called Flobots and the song is 'Handlebars". Flobots are an indie-hip hop group from Denver, formed in 2005 as a side project for Johnny 5 and Brer Rabbit. Their unique instrumentation, their positive, uplifting and yet often politically and socially charged music became extremely popular in their hometown of Denver, and it soon became a full time project for them. In the end of 2007, the band signed with Universal Republic and now their song for 'Handlebars' is getting major air play.

Get to know the band and see why I was obsessed with the 'Handlebar' song over the weekend.

BOOZE FOR BUSTER FUNDRAISER TONIGHT!!

Join me tonight to help my friend Buster! He needs a hip replacement quickly - so please stop by and donate $5. AMAZING RAFFLES!!

I couldn't fall asleep the other night, so I ended up finishing an episode of the Tonight Show, which I never do. Anyway, The B-52's performed their song 'Funplex and I was amazed at how cool the song was. I had heard it before, but I never really paid much attention to it until the other night. It's been years since the B-52s have released any new music, but with their new track 'Funplex', it's as if they have never been gone. 'Funplex' is this years 'Loveshack'! The bands new vibe seems to have a more modern feel, inspired by electronic dance music and early rock and roll-mixed together to maintain their signature sound.

You can catch the B-52's along with Cindi Lauper on June 28th at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
