I Know You're Married But I Have Feelings Too!...and Happy Birthday Kendra!

WOW! She never ceases to amaze me! This is my third time having the honors of witnessing such brilliance! Martha Wainwright's latest album dropped two weeks ago, 'I know You're Married, But I Have Feelings Too'. An odd title since she has just been married this past year. This was my first experience to see her perform with a band, not just her and her lovely guitar. Front guitarist, being her husband, whom was introduced last night. I cannot express the words of how perfect her performances are. She is a true beauty, a lyrical genius, a down to earth real person. Coming from such an infamous family, sister of Rufus, daughter of folk legends Kate McGarrigle and Louden Wainwright, she has a true approach to her music and her audience.

Last night she obviously performed songs for her latest album, but did indulge us in her classics, Factory, Far Away, When the Day is Short, and This Life. Praying and hoping she would perform B.M.F.A., she did not, but there was a perfect reason for that (keep reading and you will know why, hint: song was written about her infamous father).

Her passionate vocals and foot stomping beats creates such a closeness, leaves the audience with no choice then to come together. Having the band definitely creating a different tone to the show, but was well balanced with her solo and her guitar, but with the band, she for sure rocked The Troubadour!

As a special treat, a historical event in the Wainwright history, her father, Louden, came out and performed a song with her, which was simply amazing, and now I have seen her perform with both parents; maybe next time I will see her with her brother. But she has created an entity on her own, My Favorite Wainwright! She closed the show with a TREMENDOUS cover of Stormy Weather, which blew everyone away.

I did get the pleasure of meeting two fabulous ladies, HUGE Martha fans, and fans of the Wainwright Empire, and music in general; I may have found a new concert buddy. Picture as follows. These girls were so much fun!

Last, but not least, and I am not star f**ker, but I was able to get photo of Martha and myself, whom she did remember me from the San Francisco performance when she opened for The Swell Season. She is sweet as pie, down to earth, and the real thing. I highly recommend grabbing her new album, as well as her previous one! She is simply a talented and intriguing persona that would have you listening to her music for hours!

RACHAEL YAMAGTA NEWS!!

It's been years since we've heard anything new from RY... Finally, her LONG AWAITED album will be released in early October. I am over the moon, cuz it's been way too long, and I don't think I can go another year without her. Her music got me through some S**T back in the day...CONGRATS to Rachael on her new deal with WB Records!! I can't wait to hear her new stuff!! Here is a little note she posted on her myspace page.

Dear Patient Pollyanna Partners,

News news news! I've just signed with Warner Bros Records and we are working overtime to get all ducks in a row for an early October release! Thank you for hanging with me all this time – it's been a long road of red tape trails, but I'm very excited about the new team of peeps and I can finally say that we are on our way!

I am pleased to announce as well a little something available for your listening pleasure – an ep. The L Word was kind enough to premiere one of the songs a few weeks back (The Other Side). We heard you were looking, and lord knows you've been waiting for a record, so while I work on getting that out, I've put three songs up to tide you over. They feature some beautiful strings and my old friend, the piano. There is a link on myspace, or you may go directly here www.rachaelyamagata.com/store

So for those of you heading for heartbreak, here is some tonic. Add vodka or gin, a candle, some headphones and please enjoy.

Click here www.coldplay.com/newsdetail.php?id=44 to check out Coldplay.com's exclusive new Q&A with Chris Martin, in which he talks about planning a tour, magic balls and trying to be better than Terminator 2.

ALSO....Don't forget tonight at the Troubadour, Martha Wainwright! DON'T MISS IT!

YOU ONLY GOT 8 MINUTES...

If you can spare 8 minutes, check out the latest video from Death Cab For Cutie. "I Will Possess Your Heart" from their album NARROW STAIRS. It's a long video, but it's a great song! They play the Nokia Theatre in LA on June 23rd.

I WOULDN'T SAY TOXIC, BUT EXPLOSIVE!!

After a long and strenuous, day, I can FINALLY talk about the show I saw last night at Spaceland, The Airborne Toxic Event! By the time I had arrived the place was PACKED! So obviously they have a very serious fan base, and I highly recommend that you check them out www.myspace.com/theairbornetoxicevent . They came on strong with high and positive energy, and did it in front of a hometown crowd! Think Coldplay meets The National meets Low vs. Diamond, but with their own twist! They all came out with smiles, and greeted the audience with such high enthusiasm, and then busted out their tunes! They had all the right components: guitar, bass, drums, voice, and my personal favorite, the fiddle, which added such a great addition! So please, right now, click the link above, and give them a listen! A for sure L.A. staple, and you should see them now while you can in a small venue, as I am certain they are on their way to explosive greatness!

DON'T FORGET,TONIGHT AT THE TROUBADOUR IN WEST HOLLYWOOD!!!!!! MARTHA WAINWRIGHT! A SHOW I RECOMMEND NOT MISSING!! She goes on at 10, and trust me, another show worth attending!! Stay tuned for tomorrow on a full report of the show. I have had the pleasure of meeting her and not only is she the sister of Rufus, but one of the most AMAZING performers to date! She truly plays with emotion and feeling and is genuine in her performance and intimacy with the audience.

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW, SOMETHING BORROWED...?

A Brooklyn band by the name of Creaky Boards has accused Coldplay of stealing their song for Coldplay current ablum. "Viva la Vida" which also appears in the latest iTunes commercial is the song in question. Apparently Chris Martin saw the Creaky Boards perform at the 2007 CMJ Music Festival and was "inspired". Take a look at the youtube video that Creaky Boards posted comparing the two songs.

LOLLAPALOOZA

FIND OUT WHO'S PLAYING LOLLAPALOOZA THIS YEAR! THE LINEUP AND SET TIMES WERE JUST RELEASED - CLICK HERE!

GOING TO BE SOME GREAT ACTS THIS YEAR!!

REASON 1,545 NOT TO LIKE...

OKAY, I really use to think Kanye was super talented, and deserved all the success and fortune he has had; however, he's taking his DIVO status way too far!

'West had been scheduled to take the main stage at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival at 2:45 a.m. Sunday morning. While the sleepy thousands in the audience waited, a message on the jumbotrons told them West's show would be delayed until 3:15 a.m., and when that didn't happen, that he would start at 3:30. West didn't hit the stage until 4:25 a.m.'

WTF?!

'Judging by online reviews, West's performance didn't stand out from the 150 acts performing at the four-day musical campout. In fact, it was a yawner. Apparently, he was two hours late, shortened his set, didn't once acknowledge the crowd, not even a wave goodbye.'

Seriously, he needs to wake the hell up and be grateful for what he has! Um...didn't he just lose his mother? You would think that the death of his mother would have been a wake up call for him, and would calm his nasty ego. I don't get why people like that have success...

ONE TRICK SNOOPY

Snoops gone country y'all. He's conquered Hip Hop, and now Snoop Dog is giving country a try. His video for "My Medicine" premiered on FNMTV on Friday. I don't necessarily love it, but I think Snoop can do no wrong. He is one of those artists that can pretty much do anything and be successful. What do you think - BAD or BAD ASS?

IN CASE YOU MISSED EM...

Panic At The Disco performed on Friday nights episode of FNMTV. I'm not sure what I thought of FNMTV.... I thought it was supposed to be more about the music videos and less about the talking. It was like watching a game with commentators and all. I dunno...it had a couple of good performance including PATD.

GET TO KNOW...

GOOD MORNING!!! Ugh...another Monday is upon us, and here we are back to the daily grind. I hope you all had a nice weekend! I am SO SUPER EXCITED today, not only did the LAKERS win, but because I finally get the opportunity to introduce you to my latest musical obsession!

Her name is Olivia Broadfield, and she is a 27 year old singer/songwriter from the UK. 'She blends the electronic style of Imogen Heap with the vocal shades of Feist.'

Olivia released her debut album "Eyes Wide Open" in 2008, and I must say it's one of the best kept secrets I've recently discovered.

I first found out about Olivia when I heard her song " Don't Cry" on an episode of The Real World. The song was so captivating and I was immediately hooked. Olivia has secured many placements within film and TV, with songs in The Hills, The Real World, Wildfire and major motion picture The Eye. I had the opportunity to interview this gal, and I'm so excited to be able to share this with you today! She is incredible...a super talented artist who has a heart of gold!

Check out my interview below, watch her video for "Silence" and get your hands on a copy of her debut album EYES WIDE OPEN.

MB: Did you always know you wanted to be a performer?

OLIVIA: In terms of being a performer, I'm kind of shy, so there wasn't that instinctive desire to perform. From an early age though music was definitely always there, I had a lot of bad songs to get out of me though so it's only in the past couple of years that I've really found the way I wanted to sound, but now I have I am just so happy.

MB: If you weren't a musician what would you want to do?

OLIVIA: I did some work experience to be an auctioneer, I'm a total geek so I used to like antiques. I also love gardening so I would probably be some outdoorsy type in wellies.

MB: What inspires your music?

OLIVIA: Hmmm, anything really. A situation in my life, something going on in a friend's life. Something somebody says/does...one sentence can be the inspiration for a whole song. Like with "Silence" I was driving along in the car with a friend with the radio on, and here in the UK radio music is pretty dire, and I was like "turn it off"...and then when there was just silence, I said "silence never sounded so good" and instantly thought "SONG!" That doesn't happen that much but when it does it's great, the song just comes so easily then.

MB: Who were your major musical influences growing up?

OLIVIA: I'm an 80s kid, so Madonna, Kylie (she was huge here in the UK), boy bands etc. So now that 80s sound is still what I love, I love Gwen Stefani as she's a bit 80s, I guess that's why I love the whole electronic sound, it's the 80s in my trying to get out :)

MB: Will you be coming to America soon?

OLIVIA: There aren't any plans to yet. Everything is in the exciting early stages where we are talking to labels, I have management on board now so I think there'll be a few months before we know what's going to happen when. In the meantime I'm planning web gigs with my band so people can see what we do live.

MB: Are you surprised by the success you are seeing from your music on TV shows?

OLIVIA: OMG yes! I'd had a few things on MTV last year but The Real World thing blew my mind. Before that show aired I had 95,000 myspace hits in 2 years, then a month after the show we'd had over 250,000 hits, incredible! It blew my mind the reaction we had from one song. We were outselling Imogen Heap on itunes and she is my hero, I love her stuff, so it was all very surreal...brilliant but surreal!

MB: What is your next step? Where do you see yourself going?

OLIVIA: Next step is to just sit back for a while and see what happens. It would be really easy to jump at the first thing I'm offered, and I do have that panic of "what if this is the only thing I'm going to get!?!" but that's where the people around me, my publishers and managers, advise me to just be calm and see what comes to us. So hopefully in the next few months we may have a record deal and then it's just about writing more music, trying to make a 2nd album that I'm proud (that's easier said than done). As long as I keep having as much fun as I've had the past couple of months, I'm a happy bunny!
