CROSSING THE RUBICON ONCE AGAIN, WITH THE SOUNDS!

As you have probably gathered by now, we love the Swedes, and we especially love The Sounds. Maja and the gang have been not stop touring and recording for well over 3 years by now; traveling and performing all over the world (with several stops in LA in the past couple of years), and also getting the opportunity to join No Doubt on their last whirlwind world tour!



We have seen the Sounds at a variety of venues, with both large and small audiences, but we were SHOCKED on Wednesday night when we showed up to the show THREE HOURS EARLY (which is something that we just never do) to see the line of people completely wrapped around the block on the corner of Wilshire and Western, where the famous Wiltern Theater resides. This show, with opening acts ‘Foxy Shazam’ and ‘The Moving Units’ sold out within minutes, forcing them to add another show for Thursday night playing with ‘Shiny Toy guns’. As always, they put on a more than stellar performance, rocking the house down with their hard dance beats, and edgy lyrics. Playing songs from their latest album “Crossing the Rubicon’ as well as giving a good dose of Sounds classics from their self titled debut, and their sophomoric release “Dying to Say This to You”.



I don’t care how long that they have been touring, and Lord only know how many shows they perform, they NEVER seem to lose steam and they play for the audience and are always so grateful and loving; every time we have seen them, it always seems like the first and I hope that feeling never dies, and I doubt it will.

Alright everybody, prepare yourselves for another amazing live performance from the Sounds! That's right, they are coming back to LA to promote their latest masterpiece, "Crossing the Rubicon". First Impressions:

- This, the third album from Swedish quintet The Sounds, is undeniably catchy with female vocals, tons of upbeat electronic flourishes, dance beats, and just enough New Wave-inspired cheese to make things really fun.

- “Beatbox” is practically tailor-made for a 1980s film montage of people working out really hard. Think ice-skating classic The Cutting Edge – legwarmers, high-fives and lots of sweat backed by pulsating synth, programmed handclaps and lyrics that ask, “Tell me do you feel it?”

- The Sounds turn things around with “The Only Ones,” a song that abandons the dance-pop of the nine previous tracks for what is instead a piano-driven rock ballad.

- “Home Is Where Your Heart Is” features sentiments that will come off sappy and Disney-esque to the cynics out there (“You gotta rise to the occasion/You gotta read between the lines/Then maybe you’ll find who you are inside”), but others may find it innocently refreshing and uplifting.

Predictions:

Audiences who like to dance and don’t take things too seriously will enjoy blasting The Sounds’ latest. It’s a sunny-day record if there ever was one, and it’ll certainly induce a few shakes of the booty. But the overly-cheery synthesizers can quickly get old, making this an album to be heard in moderation, unless you just really loved the '80s.
