KCRW WELCOMES ADELE

Adele was in town early last week to do some promo for her current hit record 19. Not only did she grace the world with her talents on SNL & The Tonight Show, she also found time to do a set on KCRW's Mornings Become Eclectic.

You must watch this!! The 2nd song she sings is my FAVE!! Adel will be in LA in January and Esi and myself will be hitting up that show for sure!

We actually saw her at the Roxy this past summer and she was absolutely amazing! She has such a powerful voice and is right up there with the greats like Etta James, which so happens to be one of her influences growing up. Maybe Adele should have played Etta instead of Beyonce in the upcoming movie. Link

L.A. WAS ALIVE WITH THE MUSIC OF THE SOUNDS

PHOTOS: MEGAN WESTERBY

As many of you know The Sounds are one of my favorite bands out of Sweden. At least once a year this band makes a stop off in L.A. which now seems to be a traditional thing for them. Well, this past Thursday they hit the newly renovated Hollywood Palladium to play for a packed house of adoring D-BAGS or FANS you could call em. I say this cuz every single time I attend their show, it's like people don't know how to act. I mean, I know it's a show and it's exciting and you jump around, etc... I just happen to ALWAYS be standing next to some freak shows that must bump me or try and mosh or kiss their significant other like some annoying teenage kids. I mean seriously, must your drunk ass stumble upon me like I'm some freaking bar stool. Anyhoo...it's The Sounds! I'm totally not going to let this put a damper on my night.

I finally decided to move off to the side to get as far away from the screaming kids as I could. At that point, I met the kindest person ever, who just so happened to be a photographer taking photos for OUT MAGAZINE. Normally, I have my photographer, Cory with me at all shows, but he was out of town this night. I know I needed photos, cuz Cory was gone and I didn't bring my crappy point & shoot, so I asked Megan (the Photographer) if she was willing to let me use some of her photos from the night. Thanks to her I was able to get some really great photos of the night! Also, that night I finally was able to meet Anne from Big Hassle. Big Hassle is the company that does PR for many many amazing bands, including The Sounds. She was the sweetest thing ever...it was finally nice to put a face with the name.

All in all it was a fantastic night! An even extra special night, because the band gave us a sample of what's to come from their upcoming record. Let me just say that we are in for a treat! If you missed this show, not to worry...the band announced they will be back in 2009!

Again, thanks to Megan Westerby for the amazing photos, and a big shout out to Anne from Big Hassle! Also, big ups to The Sounds for a FN AWESOME show!

LUCK OF THE IRISH

I loved this girl when she sang with Damien Rice, so you can only imagine how I reacted when I found out she was going to have her own solo project. I was totally obsessed with that song 'The Blowers Daughter' and even more so with '9 Crimes' that Lisa sang lead vocals on with Damien.

I have heard some of her new stuff and it's absolutely brilliant! If you can't wait for a hard copy of the album, you can download SEA SAW on iTunes now!

Lisa Hannigan, the acclaimed Irish singer whom The New York Times calls “exquisitely ethereal,” is poised for the release of her much anticipated solo debut Sea Sew. Set for release January 20 on ATO Records, the album has already garnered airtime on tastemaking radio station KCRW and earned early praise from The Los Angeles Times, which calls it “charmingly idiosyncratic.” Hannigan is currently supporting Jason Mraz on his 42-date North American tour. Please see reverse for a schedule of remaining performances.

Hannigan’s chance meeting with acclaimed singer-songwriter Damien Rice led to a long period of collaboration and development. From the outset, Hannigan quickly generated attention for her own vocal performances and spent the subsequent few years touring the world, meeting wonderful musicians and friends, writing songs and contributing backing vocals on many friends’ records. Such collaborations included the Frames and Mic Christopher and Hannigan even sang with the legendary Herbie Hancock. She gradually found her voice, needing the microphone less and less.

During her seven-year collaboration with Rice, Hannigan compiled a notebook of songs and fostered the desire and confidence to put them onto a record. Hannigan, along with a talented band of friends—including Tom Osander on drums, Shane Fitzsimons on double bass, Donagh Molloy on trumpet, melodica and glockenspiel, Gavin Glass on piano, Lucy Wilkins on violin and Vyvienne Long on cello—recorded Sea Sew over 14 days in Dublin.

In advance of the album’s release, Hannigan has made available the songs “Lille,” “Sea Song,” “Pistachio” and “I Don’t Know” for streaming via her website. “I Don’t Know,” the first single off Sea Sew, will be released early next year.
