LUCK OF THE IRISH

I loved this girl when she sang with Damien Rice, so you can only imagine how I reacted when I found out she was going to have her own solo project. I was totally obsessed with that song 'The Blowers Daughter' and even more so with '9 Crimes' that Lisa sang lead vocals on with Damien.

I have heard some of her new stuff and it's absolutely brilliant! If you can't wait for a hard copy of the album, you can download SEA SAW on iTunes now!

Lisa Hannigan, the acclaimed Irish singer whom The New York Times calls “exquisitely ethereal,” is poised for the release of her much anticipated solo debut Sea Sew. Set for release January 20 on ATO Records, the album has already garnered airtime on tastemaking radio station KCRW and earned early praise from The Los Angeles Times, which calls it “charmingly idiosyncratic.” Hannigan is currently supporting Jason Mraz on his 42-date North American tour. Please see reverse for a schedule of remaining performances.

Hannigan’s chance meeting with acclaimed singer-songwriter Damien Rice led to a long period of collaboration and development. From the outset, Hannigan quickly generated attention for her own vocal performances and spent the subsequent few years touring the world, meeting wonderful musicians and friends, writing songs and contributing backing vocals on many friends’ records. Such collaborations included the Frames and Mic Christopher and Hannigan even sang with the legendary Herbie Hancock. She gradually found her voice, needing the microphone less and less.

During her seven-year collaboration with Rice, Hannigan compiled a notebook of songs and fostered the desire and confidence to put them onto a record. Hannigan, along with a talented band of friends—including Tom Osander on drums, Shane Fitzsimons on double bass, Donagh Molloy on trumpet, melodica and glockenspiel, Gavin Glass on piano, Lucy Wilkins on violin and Vyvienne Long on cello—recorded Sea Sew over 14 days in Dublin.

In advance of the album’s release, Hannigan has made available the songs “Lille,” “Sea Song,” “Pistachio” and “I Don’t Know” for streaming via her website. “I Don’t Know,” the first single off Sea Sew, will be released early next year.

Katy is killing it these days! She has reached #1 with her latest single 'Hot N Cold' and is now ready to embark on her World Tour. Go Katy!

'HOT N COLD' IS NO. 1IN TOP 40 RADIO PLAY

Breakthrough New Artist To Perform'ONE OF THE BOYS' Album In 50-City 2009 World Tour
(NEW YORK, NY November 18, 2008) - This years best new artist keeps breaking through. Capitol Records' own KATY PERRY adds another milestone to her already remarkable career, as the high-voltage smash "Hot N Cold" becomes her second No. 1-charted hit, reflecting national play in America's Top 40 radio format. The platinum-selling ONE OF THE BOYS rebounded into the Top 25 of the national Billboard Top 200 album chart five months after its release, thanks to the massive radio play of Katy's second consecutive chart-topper. The song is also No. 1 in Canada and Australia and in the Top 15 in the UK, Finland, Holland and New Zealand.

Katy begins her first worldwide headline tour in early 2009, starting January 23rd in Seattle, WA, and closing in her hometown of Santa Barbara, CA in May, with stops in 50 cities. Tickets are currently on sale.

Katy's debut single, "I Kissed a Girl," was her first international No. 1 hit. Its seven-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 equaled the Capitol Records label record previously set by The Beatles' "I Wanna Hold Your Hand". The song was the 1,000th American No. 1 hit of the rock era, surpassing 2 million domestic paid downloads, and now approaching 6 million in global single sales. In addition, the song was No. 1 nationally in 15 countries, including the U.K., Canada, Germany, Sweden, and Australia as well as a No. 1 iTunes download in over a dozen countries, and a No. 1 airplay smash in 20 territories.

ONE OF THE BOYS made its debut at No. 9 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart, and No. 4 on the Top Digital Album chart, on July 5, 2008. The album track fan favorite "Thinking of You" is being prepared for single release in December.

KCRW ANNOUNCES NEW MUSIC DIRECTOR

KCRW has just announced their new Music Director and host of Morning Becomes Eclectic. Such a great choice, cuz this guy is BRILLZ!

Now who gets to take his spot? Listen people....I'm serious when I say I should have my own radio show, and what a perfect time to get it! It looks like there's an opening...

KCRW announces the appointment of Jason Bentley as Music Director and host of Morning Becomes Eclectic, effective December 1. Bentley will leave his current evening time slot to take over KCRW’s signature music program from 9am to noon PST, Monday through Friday.

"This is a wonderful KCRW story. Jason began as a phone volunteer in the front office when he was still in high school. He grew up on KCRW because his parents were listeners. When he returned from college he reconnected with the station and debuted on the air here 16 years ago,” said KCRW General Manager Ruth Seymour. “He has a passion for the music and a deep connection to the local music scene. Moreover KCRW is in his DNA."

“I’m immensely grateful for the opportunity and humbled by the task, which is to open a new chapter for the station. It's a reinvention of myself to match the gold standards set by previous music directors. It’s no longer the hypnotic pulse of the city at night – it’s the ever-evolving optimism of weekday mornings,” said Bentley.

“My show has always reflected the continual evolution of music and emerging artists. And while I built my foundation as a champion of dance and electronic music, this is a great opportunity for me to grow, a challenge I will take very seriously. “

"The other side to this position, no less important than MBE, is to work closely with the incredibly talented group of DJs we have at KCRW to inspire the best from these bright minds and celebrate the diversity of our music department. Together we will build on KCRW's stellar reputation in Los Angeles and around the world."

Bentley is widely respected, not just as a KCRW DJ but as a Music Supervisor for film (“The Matrix” soundtracks), a music executive (co-founder of the Quango Music Group and an A&R exec at Madonna's Maverick imprint) and as a music producer and remixer in his own right.

Jason has nurtured a thriving music scene in Los Angeles over the years, Producing events at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Skirball Cultural Center, and The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and consults for the LA Philharmonic on special events at the Hollywood Bowl and Disney Hall. He was the headlining DJ at Uptown Underground, a hugely successful public art installation that drew more than 8,000 people to the Music Center in Downtown LA and the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

Jason has served for two consecutive terms on the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and is involved in awards committees every year leading up to the Grammy's. Earlier this year, Jason became the first ever DJ for the Governor’s Ball, the celebration following the Academy Awards, and more recently, he headlined the official election night party for President elect Barack Obama in Los Angeles at the Hyatt Century Plaza to a capacity crowd.

Current Music Director Nic Harcourt will step down at the end of the month to pursue several independent projects and will continue as a KCRW DJ, hosting a 3-hour show on Sunday nights from 6-9 pm PST.

Further programming updates will be released in the next few weeks.

WELCOME TO MI AMI

Quarterstick Records, Touch and Go's partner label for the last 17-plus years, is pleased to welcome San Francisco-based drum punk trio Mi Ami to the folds. Featuring two key members of Dischord's hyper-percussive Black Eyes (Daniel Martin-McCormick on vocals and guitar, and Jacob Long on bass) as well as Damon Palermo on drums, Mi Ami builds on the promise of Black Eyes' spastic energy and renowned live performances, but steers it into a more focused, volatile, and personal direction

Mi Ami's first single on Quarterstick, Echononecho, will be released as a 12" and digitally January 27, 2009, with the follow-up full length, Watersports, out February 17, 2009. The band fully takes flight and thrives in the live setting, with shows turning into all-out pulsating rhythmic throwdowns, so save up some energy and be sure to catch them on their extensive tours throughout 2009.
