DATAROCK ANNOUNCE NEW TOUR & PREMIERE NEW VIDEO

In celebration of their sophomore album RED (September 1), DATAROCK is taking over North America with a 26-city tour that beings on Friday, August 28 in Montreal and ends on Saturday, October 3 in Seattle.

In the midst of sell-out dates across London and Australia, the Norwegian rockers made a quick stop in the US last month and gave packed audiences in Los Angeles and San Francisco a sneak preview of what they can expect from 5-week tour…same tracksuits, more songs, bigger show.

Meanwhile, reviews of Red have started to pile in from abroad. Uncut gave the album 4stars, and Artrocker said, “"As comfortable with retro trappings as they are with exploratory modernism, the 'Rock have made one of the bolder second albums of recent times." InTheNews.co.uk stated, “Red has the potential to elevate Datarock beyond the cult appeal of their first album."

Datarock also revealed their latest video for the track "True Stories" today on Spin. Enjoy below:

LATE NIGHT WITH METRIC

Behind the scenes, performance of "Help I'm Alive" from the album FANTASIES on the Late Show with David Letterman, which aired on July 17th, 2009.

And in case you missed it...here's their performance.

KINGS OF THE WORLD

RCA Records is proud to announce the RIAA certified platinum status of Kings of Leon's fourth studio album "Only By The Night". This is the first platinum record for the band in the United States . This fall, the Grammy Award-winning band will embark upon a 30-plus-date arena tour of North America , including headlining slots at Lollapalooza and the Austin City Limits Festival.

Since its release last September, Only By The Night has taken Kings of Leon to massive heights in America . Breakthrough radio play for the smash singles "Sex On Fire" and "Use Somebody", appearances on the covers of Rolling Stone and SPIN and performances on Saturday Night Live, Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno have all helped give the band the biggest selling record of their career as well as put them in front of more fans than ever before as they headline arenas across the country.

Only By The Night was released on September 23, 2008 and debuted in the top five on the Billboard top 200 and #1 at iTunes. They were nominated for three Grammys and won their first for "Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals" for "Sex On Fire", which was #1 on Billboard magazine's Modern Rock chart for nine weeks in a row. "Use Somebody", which has now sold over one million tracks, was #1 at Modern Rock for three weeks straight and is currently one of the biggest rock crossovers of the year at pop radio, sitting at #19 on the Top 40 chart and growing every week.

On July 31st, the band will perform on the Today Show as part of their signature summer series of Friday concerts on Rockefeller Plaza and then follow that up with a headlining performance at this year's Lollapalooza in Chicago 's Grant Park, a show at Red Rocks and their biggest concerts in Canada to date. On August 22nd, the band will headline The Forum in Los Angeles and then perform on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien on August 24th.

GET TOASTED WITH RED BULL AND TRAVIS PASTRANA

He’s double backflipped a motorcycle, rolled a rally car, jumped out of an airplane without a parachute, won nine X Games gold medals and has revolutionized pretty much everything he has ever tried – and he’s only 25 years old! On Tuesday, July 28, Travis Pastrana will be honored with a celebration of his career at Red Bull Toasted. Hosted by comedian Arj Barker, star of HBO’s Flight of the Conchords, the event will bring fans, athletes and celebrities together to pay tribute to all that Pastrana has contributed to the world of sports at the Avalon in Hollywood.

Red Bull Toasted will feature special appearances by several iconic friends and family members of Pastrana, including Ryan Sheckler, skateboarder and star of the MTV hit reality series Life of Ryan, Supercross champion James Stewart and cast members from MTV's Nitro Circus. Never-before-seen outtakes from Nitro Circus, career highlights and even some - ahem - lowlights, will add to the revelry.

The evening will wrap up by revealing “what’s next” in Travis’ career. We would tell you more, but the details are also a secret to Travis until he arrives. Shhh!

Red carpet arrivals will take place at 7:00 p.m. PT and Red Bull Toasted will begin at 8:00 p.m.
The event is open to the public (all ages) and tickets will go on sale on Friday, July 10 for $15 at www.travispastrana.com.

If you want to check it out - no need to buy tickets cuz musicbleep is hooken' you up!! We are giving a pair of tickets away to the first person that hits me up on TWITTER!!

THE BQE BY SUFJAN STEVENS

THE BQE- A Film By Sufjan Stevens from Asthmatic Kitty on Vimeo.

Sufjan Stevens premiered The BQE, a film and musical suite exploring New York City’s infamous Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Next Wave Festival in November 2007. The critically applauded performance featured 36 performers including a band, a wind and brass ensemble, string players, a horn section, projected film footage of the expressway and five hula hoopers. On October 20, Asthmatic Kitty Records will release The BQE (also available via Rough Trade in the UK, P-Vine in Japan, Spunk in Australia).

The comprehensive package features the CD soundtrack, the DVD of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway film footage, a 40-page booklet with extensive liner notes & photographs and an accompanying stereoscopic 3-D Viewmaster® reel. Furthermore, Asthmatic Kitty will release a limited edition double gatefold vinyl edition of The BQE on 180-gram vinyl with a large-scale 32-page booklet including liner notes, photographs and a black and white version of a 40-page BQE-themed Hooper Heroes comic book. View a video trailer of The BQE here: vimeo.com/5682252.

On October 24, 92YTribeca will host the premiere screening of The BQE DVD with an introduction by Stevens. At the screening, the Osso Quartet will perform selections from Run Rabbit Run.

The concept behind The BQE is based largely on the history of New York’s Brooklyn-Queens Expressway—12.7 miles of urban roadway built between 1939 and1964 by master urban planner Robert Moses. The Viewmaster®, unveiled at the 1939 NYC World’s Fair (the World’s Fair being part of the motivation for the construction of the BQE, funneling New Yorkers to and from Flushing, Queens), was intended to promote 3-D panoramic illusions of the American landscape and serve as advertising for various tourist destinations and motivation for American drivers. The Hooper Heroes comic book, written by Stevens and drawn, colored and inked by collaborator Stephen Halker, follows three extra-terrestrial superhero sisters who use hula-hoops to combat “the Messiah of Civic Projects,” Captain Moses.

Sufjan Stevens has released seven studio recordings since 2000 including Michigan and Illinois, the first two entries in an epic series of 50 recordings each based on a different U.S. state; a 5-EP Christmas box set; and Enjoy Your Rabbit, an instrumental electronic song cycle based on the animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Run Rabbit Run, a recording of Enjoy Your Rabbit rearranged for the Osso String Quartet, is due October 6 via Asthmatic Kitty. Stevens has also collaborated with fellow indie pop acts Danielson Famile, Rosie Thomas, Denison Witmer, My Brightest Diamond and many others.

GET YOUR MUSIC ON THE ROCK BAND NETWORK

Music video games like Rock Band have brought attention to hundreds of songs and introduce older bands to a new generation, and now the title may help unknowns and up and comers crack the bigtime: Today Harmonix and MTV Games announced the creation of the Rock Band Network, a place where any aspiring songwriter can attempt to turn his or her own songs into gameplay files to be sold as playable tracks.

The Rock Band Network will launch in August and include instructions for how exactly songwriters can turn their tunes into game songs. Songs must first undergo play-testing at Creators.RockBand.com, a Website available to those who become premium members of Microsoft’s XNA Creators Club Online at a cost of $49.99 for four months or $99.99 for a year. When a track gets the go ahead, it will be sold at the Rock Band Network Store exclusively for Xbox 360 for a period of 30 days starting in the fall. A selection of approved tracks will later be sold for PlayStation 3 and Wii. Harmonix and MTV promise artists whose tunes make the cut will be compensated: rockers will be able to price individual tracks according to multiple pricing tiers, and they’ll get paid royalties accordingly.

“Our goal with Rock Band has always been to go beyond making music games and create a true music platform,” said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and co-founder of Harmonix, in a statement.
Fall 2009 promises to be a busy time in the world of music video games. Rock Band’s Beatles game is due September 9th, the same day the Fab Four’s remastered catalog hits stores. Competitor Guitar Hero 5 will be released on September 1st.

BEASTIE BOYS ISSUE STATEMENT

‘Adam "MCA" Yauch of Beastie Boys was diagnosed last week as having a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland. Luckily it was caught early and is localized in one area, and as such is considered very treatable. It will however require surgery and several weeks of additional treatment. Fortunately the cancer is not in a location that will affect Yauch's vocal chords. Beastie Boys have canceled all upcoming concert appearances to allow time for Yauch's surgery and recovery. The release of the band's forthcoming album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 will also be pushed back.

'Paraphrasing from a video statement on http://www.beastieboys.com/, Yauch said, "I just need to take a little time to get this in check, and then we'll release the record and play some shows. It's a pain in the neck (sorry had to say it) because I was really looking forward to playing these shows, but the doctors have made it clear that this is not the kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later."’

A statement from EMI reads: ‘Our thoughts, love and prayers are with Adam Yauch, his family and the Beastie Boys. The most important thing is to allow Adam to focus on staying healthy. We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.’

FREE @ THE HAMMER: EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROS!

One of Musicbleep's most recent discoveries and favorites, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros will be putting on a free show at the Hammer Museum in Westwood this Thursday, July 23rd at 8PM. If you have not had the pleasure of indulging in this 12 piece ensemble of positive, 60's, indie rock, stop what you are doing and download their debut album "Up From Below". I have not stopped listening to this masterpiece since before it's July 7th release. They are definitely pulling in references from several musical genres and creating a style and sound all their own. Although progressive, their music can reach out and touch any taste, but I have to say it does bring out the old "hippie" in me and bringing me back to my Northern California roots. You can look the up at www.myspace/edwardsharpe or just go straight to iTunes and download this unforgettable album. It's the perfect soundtrack to the summer!

MOVING, MONDAYS, AND MOBY!

First off I would like to extend a Happy Monday to everyone out there in Musicbleep land. As Monday might not be my most favorable days of the week, it does dawn the eve of Tuesdays, which is when new music is launched, and it makes a fine day for music lovers from all over the check out and get new tunes.

Second, I would like to let you all know that things might be a wee bit slow on the website front for the next day or so, as we are moving...(only down the street), but our connection to the world wide internet is en route to our new location, so posts might be far and few between, but we are working on this problem and doing our best to keep you updated on all the happenings in the music world...

And finally for this post, I would like to welcome Moby's 16th, yes I said 16th, full length album "Wait For Me". It makes me feel a bit old thinking that this he has released 16 albums and I can remember the first one he dropped in '91, not to mention the other post-punk bands he was a member of in the 80's...scary! His music has meant a lot to me over the years, getting me through the dark days and keeping me energized and feeling good on those happy days. I feel that, although he definitely has some classics, his music just keeps getting more progressive and improves album upon album, including his latest. Go check out some of his new tunes at www.myspace.com/moby, including is latest single 'Pale Horses'. Today also marks the start of his world tour, making a stop at the Wiltern, here in Los Angeles on October 14th, and tickets are still available! See you there!
