WORLD PREMIERE VIDEO - CRYSTAL ANTLERS

Leading up to the April 7th release of their anticipated debut full-length album entitled "Tentacles", Crystal Antlers have released a new music video for the song "Andrew." The effort was directed by Michael Reich (Videothing.com) and will tie-in to a feature film that the band will be releasing later this year. Everything here was shot using a Canon 5D Mark 2 still Camera while the band and crew were just recently on tour in Europe. The video is also currently being premiered at Pitchfork.tv.

CRYSTAL ANTLERS DEBUT TENTACLES

Tentacles, the hotly anticipated debut album from Crystal Antlers, will be released on April 6th (Europe) and April 7th (North America) via the stalwart indie label Touch and Go Records, home to CocoRosie, Ted Leo, The Jesus Lizard, and many others.

Recorded and mixed on 2” tape at San Francisco’s Closer Studios in the span of one sleepless week, Tentacles is a document of the Antlers’ vigorous work ethic and breathless vitality. As hinted at on last year’s EP, many of the tracks here touch on the fragility of nature and its destruction by humankind, all under a cloudburst of epic sound and energy.

Beyond the sonic expansion, the band itself has grown: original guitarist Errol Davis returned to the fold for Tentacles, bringing the personnel tally to one bass, two guitars, two drummers, and an organ. Davis will also be a part of the Antlers’ manic and massive live show, joining them on the road for the North American tour in March.

NEW MUSIC - CRYSTAL ANTLERS

If the words “chimney sweep” and “soul psychedelia” don’t go together in your mind, they just may after you take a listen to Crystal Antlers’ debut EP, the beguilingly titled EP. When the band formed in 2006, three of it’s members—including lead singer and bassist Jonny Bell—were in fact working as chimney sweeps and playing out constantly in SoCal. Getting dirty by day and by night, the band recorded two 7-inch singles before settling down to record this EP with the Mars Volta’s Ikey Owens. When the band sent us a copy earlier this year, we were blown away by its swirling guitars, dramatic organ clamor, and relentless blending of influences ranging from cinematic psych to noisy soul punk.

“Long Beach’s Crystal Antlers have mastered the art of thrash, that combustible build-up of noise and melody that so many others have tried to harness, only to fail in a miserable pool of fuzzy annoyance.” OC Weekly

“As much as it diverges from the brain-frying aim of typical psych-rock outings, EP is an unorthodox summer record-- not so much for driving to the beach as actually being in its sweltering grasp, equal parts scorched earth and wide open spaces.” Pitchfork

“Unashamed, unafraid, gritty hot-mess melodies that take cues from the Stooges, Joe Cocker, Screamin' Jay Hawkins (rest his soul) and Ozzy Osbourne.” LA Weekly

Band:
Jonny Bell- Bass, Vocals, Woodwinds, head chimney sweep/ CEO
Victor Rodriguez- Organ, son of professional Mariachi, Chihuahua enthusiast, hair
Kevin Stuart- Drums, industrial kitchen appliance repairs, lady killer
Damian Sexual Chocolate Edwards- Percussion (standing), Disneyland caterer
Andrew King- Guitar, used car salesman, 80’s h/c prodigal savant

FRESH NEWS: CRYSTAL ANTLERS INK A DEAL

I'm a huge fan of Touch And Go Records and the artists they represent. Today I want you to meet the new addition to the Touch And Go Family!

CRYSTAL ANTLERS SIGN TO TOUCH AND GO RECORDS

Crystal Antlers have been surrounded by beautiful energy lately. The
days of summer have been filled with the punk rock mischief of touring
cross-country on a vegetable oil-powered school bus as part of the
widely publicized F Yeah Fest (F Yeah Fest, New York Times),
filling massive orders for their self-released EP through their myspace page
(Crystal Antlers Myspace), and on downtime, drinking beers in
percussionist Damian's empty pool.

So as it happens, we’ve been caught under the spell of that energy and
floored by the burst of raw, soulful punk that is the Antlers debut EP
and live show. With that, we couldn’t be happier to announce that Touch
and Go Records will be reissuing the Crystal Antlers EP on compact disc
in October, with its first-ever pressing on vinyl to follow in November.
We’ll also be releasing a full-length album once the guys finish work
on it, so look for that in the first part of 2009.

Until then, you can tide yourselves over by catching the Antlers live as
they continue to spread their magic around the continent with Fucked Up
and The Strange Boys in September and later in October when they hit the
CMJ Music Festival.
