SCHOOL'S IN SESSION

SCHOOL OF SEVEN BELLS ANNOUNCE CO-HEADLINING US TOUR WITH BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW, MTV2 SUBTERRANEAN PREMIERE FOR "HALF ASLEEP" VIDEO, CONTINUE WORLD TOUR

Brooklyn three-piece School of Seven Bells (Benjamin Curtis from the Secret Machines and the twin Deheza sisters from On! Air! Library!) are pleased to announce their upcoming co-headlining US tour with experimental psych-band, Black Moth Super Rainbow. The Bells have spent the first half of the year on a world tour, and just performed a set of five highly-celebrated performances at SXSW. Entertainment Weekly called it, "...a sound that could just as easily put you in a reflective trance or make you dance for your life, and the Dallas Observer called the Bells, "quite alluring...incredibly interesting."

School of Seven Bells' Ghostly International full-length debut, Alpinisms, has received critical acclaim across the globe. The band was recently featured in SPIN, and in a recent Rolling Stone cover story on U2, The Edge sites School of Seven Bells' sound as an influence on No Line On The Horizon's droning tribal side. The New York Times called the Bells, "a promising blend of the psychedelic and the futuristic," David Fricke at Rolling Stone said, "the effect is warm goth - New Order with more eros," and PItchfork Media called it, "a reverberating march of twinkling effects, glitchy Bjorkian rhythms, and insistently echoed drones of womanly harmonies."

The Bells' video for "Half Asleep" premiered on MTV2 Subterranean and Pitchfork TV, has been airing on MTVU, and was featured on the front page of YouTube earlier this month. Ghostly International will be releasing a new 12" single "My Cabal" with remixes from Jesu and Seefeel on May 19th, following the recent release of School of Seven Bells' single for "Iamundernodisguise" on 7" vinyl and digital download, and Alpinisms on 180-gram limited edition vinyl.

School of Seven Bells is currently on a UK tour with Bat For Lashes, will be heading to Australia for the rest of April and touring the UK once more with White Lies before making their return to the states with Black Moth Super Rainbow in May/June. The band will also be performing at the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival in the UK, the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan, and the Sasquatch Festival in Seattle, WA.

PLAY WWE LEGENDS OF WRESTLE MANIA WITH NFG

Pop punk band New Found Glory have just released their sixth studio album, Not Without a Fight, and they're celebrating by playing WWE® Legends of WrestleMania® with Xbox LIVE® Gold members April 7.

If you're an Xbox LIVE Gold member (if not, upgrade now!), and you want a chance to play with New Found Glory, send a friend request to the Gamertag "NewFoundGWF" and be online half an hour before (4:30 P.M. ET) the Game with Fame session starts on Tuesday, April 7, 5:00 P.M. EST.

Epitaph label owner Brett Gurewitz calls New Found Glory "the greatest pop-punk band in history," which is quite a claim, but fans of the band from their first 1999 album Nothing Gold Can Stay to their brand-new release, realize Gurewitz just might be right. Their sixth studio album, Not Without a Fight, released on March 10 of this year, and has already hit the top ten in the Billboard charts..

With the new album, the band seems to have found a new purpose, a new intent in their strong and powerful music. Guitarist Chad Gilbert says, "New Found Glory is back to where we want it to be: we tour, we play music and it's from the heart." And he continues, "Nobody in New Found Glory loves anything as much as this band. You fight with your mom. You don't hang out with her all the time. But you love her! You're never going to hate her. We're family. It might sound cliche, but that's what it is." That's almost certainly the reason the band has maintained their current lineup for over ten years. New Found Glory consists of Jordan Pundik (vocals), Chad Gilbert (guitar), Steven Klein (guitar), Ian Grushka (bass), and Cyrus Bolooki (drums).

If you get a chance to play with New Found Glory, Xbox wants to hear about it! Send an e-mail to xlmail@microsoft.com with the subject: "GWF - New Found Glory." Be sure to include your Gamertag and hometown.

ANYA MARINA - TONIGHT AT THE HOTEL CAFE

If you have nothing to do tonight, head over to the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood to catch singer/songwriter Anya Marina. I had the chance to see her at an event for Rockville, CA a few months back, and she left me speechless. So come out and see her tonight!! If you can't make it tonight, you have a few more chances as she's heading out again for a Spring tour.

Anya Marina is reuniting with her tour buddies, The Virgins, for a Spring jaunt. Hitting up a couple cities they missed on their first go-round with Lissy Trullie, the tour will take them from Denver to Orlando. But after a great week in Austin, Anya couldn’t stay away from the road and her fans for too long, so she decided to kick off the tour a little early, prefacing with a handful of dates beginning on the West Coast.

Anya’s live shows have quickly become a staple among music tastemakers with her witty banter and clever covers (she does an acoustic version of T.I.’s “Whatever You Like”), so don’t miss her this time around!

OUR FAVORITE AUSSIES, ANGUS AND JULIA STONE...WE SAW THEM LIVE!

If you have been keeping up with Musicbleep, which you should be doing on a daily basis, you will know that we have been talking about the Australian brother and sister duo Angus and Julia Stone quite a bit. Last week, we finally got to see them perform, and I'm going to do my best to describe our experience, but it will be hard, because they were so amazing, I'm almost speechless!
Their looks are so different, yet they totally compliment each other. Julia looked as if she should be running through a meadow, with a crown of flowers upon her head. I was an instant fan the second I heard them, and seeing them live brought my love for them to a much higher level! Their seemingly slow, melodic songs, and geniously written lyrics were so incredibly heightened live. With a mixture of her flawless vocals, his raspy voice, and harmonicas, guitars and trumpets, created a very powerful performance. They would start off each song quiet and slow and bring it up to a loud, chest pounding emotion, and I have to admit.....I did shed a tear (actually two different times).

If you have yet to have taken a listen, I beg of you, CHECK THEM OUT!! You can do so at youtube and at http://www.blogger.com/www.myspace.com/angusandjuliastone. Also, and thank you Jesus, they are coming back to LA to headline the Troubadour in West Hollywood on April 23rd!!! So GO GO GO!!! You will NOT be disappointed, in fact, you will be inspired and leave the show with a smile on your face and love in your heart!

BRETT DENNEN @ H.O.B HOLLYWOOD

Last Wednesday at the House of Blues Hollywood, we had the chance to see a wonderful performance by Brett Dennen. You may not quite recognize the name as of yet, but you will be hearing it a lot in the near future as he is definitely making his mark in music today! He has had songs on shows, such as 'Greys Anatomy', 'Scrubs', and 'House', so you may have heard him at some point. His third album "Hope For the Hopeless" dropped on October 21st, and has sold tens of thousands of copies.

The stage was set with a painting that he had done, 4 religious candles, and burning incense. He arrived onto the stage in white Dickies pants and shirt, and no shoes. He quietly picked up his guitar and started the show with 'Ain't Gonna Lose You', which I have to say was amazing. Once he finished that highly emotional, lyrical song, he definitely picked up the beat and got his jam on! I know this might sound a bit odd, but think Antony and the Johnsons meets Cat Stevens meets Jimmy Buffet meets Jason Mraz, and you will have Brett Dennen. Yet with all those comparisons, he has a sound all his own. Check him out on youtube, or at http://www.blogger.com/www.myspace.com/brettdennen.

RUSSIAN ROULETTE - MAY 5TH

The six incredible tracks found on UK songwriter Ed Harcourt's new EP, Russian Roulette, are as personal as they come. Each song recounts the many emotions and thoughts he's experienced, embracing both the high and low times one endures. The track "Caterpillar" points to a particularly intense and emotional moment in Harcourt’s life when earlier this year, his newborn daughter Roxy had been placed in an incubator, deeply worrying both Harcourt and his wife as they sat idle, waiting for their Roxy to recover. Describing the song and experience, Harcourt goes on to say, "It's the first song I've written about her. She was a little ill and we waited for her in the hospital for the chrysalis so we could take her home."

In true Harcourt style, the man behind the music goes on to describe the sentiments behind a few of the other tracks on Russian Roulette...

About "Russian Roulette"
"We've all got that one acquaintance who acts out of their league, it's a constant pain. But you still love them.. Every fucking singer is that typical molotov cocktail of insecurity and arrogance. It's no excuse unless you can back it up."

About "Sour Milk/Motheaten Silk"
"Other peoples' spontaneity keeps you sharp. Sour Milk et all are those rotten things that plague your fridge and cupboard and then some. Sometimes I like that. I guess a lot of my music is inspired by Cypress Hill and Japanese children's shows."

Harcourt entertained the idea of a 6-track “mini album” to serve as a stop-gap between his 2006 full-length A Beautiful Lie and a forthcoming full-length due next year. He recorded and mixed the Russian Roulette EP in just the span of a few days with London based Dave Lynch, and went on to say, “Dave is a very lovely man and extremely brilliant at what he does – he’s a miracle worker.”

Russian Roulette will be available through all online retailers on May 5th via Dovecote Records.

JENNY OWEN YOUNGS TO RELEASE HER SOPHOMORE ALBUM

JENNY OWEN YOUNGS TO RELEASE HER SOPHOMORE ALBUM, TRANSMITTER FAILURE, MAY 26 on nettwerk records

led to the sea ep out april 7

(March 24, 2009) Jenny Owen Youngs is back with her second album, Transmitter Failure due May 26. This record is a bold departure from her 2007 release Batten The Hatches, which thrust Youngs into the spotlight (and won her a record deal with Nettwerk) when her song “Fuck Was I” was featured on the TV show “Weeds”.

The new record, produced by Dan Romer (Ingrid Michaelson, April Smith, The Woes) has a different musical take. Transmitter Failure is a gripping album featuring a lush aural landscape populated by gut-thumping bass lines, electric guitars, sunny keys, booming horns, digital drum tracks and even flute, glockenspiel and a full string section at times (borrowed straight from the pit of award-winning Broadway musical Spring Awakening). Where acoustic guitar was once a cornerstone of her previous work, the sonic core of Transmitter Failure is comprised of crunchy, multi-layered electrics.

Youngs says of the new sound, “I wanted to make something that would move people emotionally, but also move them physically. I did not want to end up touring for another three years on a record that wouldn't offer people the opportunity to move. So. Dan and I set out to make something that was, quite simply, more fun to play live. In the process, my writing took turns I didn't expect.”

Yet throughout it all, Transmitter Failure is unmistakably Jenny: Smart song structures, melodies informed by her love of pop music, and an ability to sting the listener with her candid lyrical insights.
