HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

Oh, oh, oh, oh Swede Child O' Mine...

So, seriously folks, what is going on? In the 80's, the UK ruled the music scene in America by brining us acts like The Sex Pistols, Depeche Mode, The Cure, and many, many more! Then the 90's, we were blanketed with plaid shirts, Doc Martins, and grungy, unwashed hair with the Seattle sounds of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, then leading us into the techno, rave era. Now, I am convinced that Sweden is the new sound of the 2000's! We have The Sounds, Jens Lekman, The Knife, Lykke Li, etc., etc., etc., and I have just recently discovered the enchanting artists, TAKEN BY TREES! I first heard them with a cover of Guns and Roses 'Sweet Child O' Mine', which, I might add, is AMAZING!! Then researched them more, and there music is so intoxicating and wonderful. I don't even know who to compare them too, as they have a sound all their own. AIN'T NO STOPPING EM NOW

Coldplay is #1 again this week on the Billboard charts for the second week. Also, in just two weeks, Viva La Vida has sold more downloads than any album in digital history. The old record was held by John Mayer's Continuum. Viva La Vida sold 66,000 downloads this week, bringing its two-week total to 354,000. Continuum has sold 353,000 downloads since its release in September 2006.

OUR PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!

Looks like Ticketmaster may have some competition on their hands. Live Nation is getting closer to becoming its own ticketing entity when their contract expires at the end of 08. This would be Ticketmasters first true competitor and Live Nations final phase plotted out when signing those 360 deals with Madonna & Jay-Z.

Maybe now they will do away with some of those FN fees, and I may actually get to see a show for $16 instead of $36. Thank you Jesus!

GYM CLASS PRISONER

Gym Class Heroes lead singer Travis McCoy was arrested last night in St. Louis on one charge of third-degree assault. The group had just finished the first song of their Warped Tour set, “Peace Sign,” when a black audience member near the front row called the New York-based singer a “fucking ignorant nigger.”

McCoy asked the man, “What did you just call me?” As security was removing him from the crowd, Travis reached down and broke his microphone over the man’s head. McCoy immediately apologized for his reaction. “I’m sorry. But when someone calls you something that ignorant and that offensive, you have to bash their head in with a microphone,” said McCoy. The audience cheered as the man in question was carried away by security. McCoy was arrested onstage at the end of his set.

OH, BOY!

Boy George has canceled his North American tour after U.S. authorities denied him a visa to enter the country. He was planning to kick-off his 25 city tour on July 10th (my b-day) in Denver, Colorado.

Boy George has been refused a visa because he's awaiting trial in London on charges that he falsely imprisoned a man. The singer has pleaded not guilty.

"I was really hoping that the issue would be resolved and that some kind soul at the U.S. Visa Office would realize that if the police in the U.K. placed no restrictions on my movements, that should have been good enough for them," O'Dowd said in a statement Tuesday.

"I am very sorry that I will not see all my American fans this year, but I wish them a happy and healthy Fourth of July. I include the Visa Office in those good wishes and realize they are doing a very difficult job and I just got unlucky," he said.

He intends to reschedule his North American tour for next winter. He'll continue his concert tours of South America and the United Kingdom in September and October.

Next time just ask before you tie him up!

1st...Jay-Z doing a cover of "Wonderwall" by Oasis at the 2008 Glastonbury Festival this past weekend. It might as well been Amy Winehouse butchering it! Stick to the rapping my friend...



2nd...Amy socking it to some fan in the audience when she took the stage and climbed down into the pit. "Allegedly" the fan was trying to grope Amy, which sent her into a FRENZY. I love the elbo action shes got going. She also managed to make an enemy in Kanye West, calling the rapper a "cunt". After praising Jay-Z, who headlined the fest, Winehouse said “Imagine if it was a cunt like Kanye West. ‘Cunts like Kanye.’ That should be his next album title.”

Gotta love that bitch!

GET TO KNOW...

I was recently introduced to this band by the name of Grand Ole Party. The trio consists of singer-drummer Kristin Gundred, guitarist John Paul Labno, and bassist Michael Krechnyak. The three met while attending college and started playing in San Diego after moving there from the San Francisco area in 2006.

Their intoxicating debut album HUMANIMALS was released in 2007, which was produced by Blake Sennett of Rilo Kiley. After winning the "Best Alternative Band" award at the 2007 San Diego Awards, GOP has toured as the main opener with Rilo Kiley, Vampire Weekend, The Fiery Furnaces and Rogue Wave.
