YELLE & SCREAM
YELLE WANTS FANS TO JOIN HER DANCE MASQUERADE DURING UPCOMING C'EST L'AMERIQUE TOUR BY WEARING CUSTOM MADE YELLE MASQUES.French Electro-Pop Singer Creating Documentary Of U.S. Tour
And Is Asking Fans To Be A Part Of The Film
Audience Members Wearing Masques Will Receive A Special Kiss From Yelle
(New York, NY - Sep. 19, 2008) - As her highly anticipated C'est L'Amerique Tour approaches it's October 7th debut in Dallas, TX (full schedule below), French electro chanteuse Yelle has announced that each show will be a dance masquerade party and she wants fans to participate by creating their own polygon dog masks that can be downloaded from the band's MySpace page, www.myspace.com/iloveyelle. In addition, the band will create a documentary about their American tour and want fans to appear in the film talking about their lives and their passion for music. To win a chance to participate, fans must complete the documentary form available on the Yelle MySpace page. Yelle will choose winners from each tour stop, who'll receive free tickets to the show and a private meet n greet with the band, which includes album producer GrandMarnier on drums and vocals and collaborator/remixer Tepr on keyboards and programming. Opening for Yelle is Funeral Party along with Passion Pit on select West Coast dates.
Crowned "the French M.I.A." by Teen Vogue, Yelle made a huge splash in the U.S. last spring with the April release of her debut album Pop-Up (Astralwerks), which charted in the Top 10 on Billboard's Top Electronic Album chart and also entered Billboard's Heatseekers chart. (The album was released digitally in late 2007 and charted among iTunes top-selling electronic albums). XLR8R Magazine describes the album as "funny, naïve, and sometimes dirty, but also smart and backed by extremely catchy electronic beats." American audiences were mesmerized by Yelle's exuberant three-man stage show and colorful, unique fashions during her brief Spring 08'. In response to her thrilling Coachella performance, Spin Magazine described Yelle as "a French electro version of the young Olivia Newton-John who stole Kylie Minogue's dance moves," and said that "Yelle loco-motioned the room into a frenzy." Fans are sure to be blown away once again as the French vixen has partnered with designer Jeremy Scott to create costumes for the Fall tour.
A global phenomenon and fashion icon online and off, Yelle recently concluded her world-wide festival tour on August 10th at Japan's Summersonic Festival. Yelle's videos have been viewed millions of times on YouTube and the clip for "A Cause Des Garcons" (TEPR remix) has been viewed nearly 11 million times alone. Yelle's most recent video for "Ce Jeu" made its premiere in August on the world's most famous celebrity blog website PerezHilton.com.

GET TO KNOW...

The debut full-length from former Death From Above 1979 drummer/vocalist Sebastien Grainger, titled Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains, will be in stores October 21st. The Saddle Creek online store is now taking pre-orders. Pre-orders will ship 2 weeks early on October 7th. They are making the song "American Names" available for free and legal download.
Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains is a record that reflects the majesty its title suggests. Big chords, soaring choruses, and Sebastien’s voice paint the portrait of a man still climbing. While lyrically and musically, Grainger’s taken a sidestep away from the more aggressive approach of his past musical pursuits in favor of a more reflective and personal style, he still knows how to rock it when necessary. Pulling no punches, Sebastien’s crafted a muscular and smart rock record that will surprise people expecting him to relive his past.

Best known for his contributions as singer and drummer for Canadian dance-punk duo Death From Above 1979, whose decadently catchy anthems took the world by storm with the release of their breakthrough record You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine in 2004, Sebastien Grainger is soon to be even better known to the world as a singer and songwriter of sophis- ticated distinction via his new solo works. Fans of his prior music will likely be surprised by his new direction: delicately layered ruminations rich with energetic arrangements and deep melodic undercurrents. With his first full-length album Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains he further expands upon the well-received melodic endeavors of his digital EP American Names.
Grainger will modestly tell you “every song is a problem, or an equation that I have to resolve,” but it’s obvious that the results are richer and more soulful rather than calculated and math- ematical. Feeling like he is finally expressing himself on his own terms with the new record, Grainger is eager to hit the road once again and present these songs to the folks who’ve been curious about his next move after the dissolution of DFA 1979. Although he’s a self-described “domestic person,” Grainger’s penchant for singing loudly, playing as hard as possible, and getting sweaty is real–as real as people’s enthusiasm for him to keep doing so.

THE NEW SHIT
The New Shit or thenewno2 (my friend pointed out that no2 = shit) are insane! This band had some raw talent that I haven't seen in a band for quite some time. I didn't really know the music before the show, so I had no expectations, but I feel like it's one of those records you put on and it takes you on a journey (whatever else may help you get on that journey could be good too).
The Key Club was packed for a Tuesday night, so they definitely have a core following. There was this chick next me freaking out trying to get a picture of the band and a few others hyped out on something trying to get into the spirit of the show.
It was a bad ass show, and I recommend checking em out while you can!
You have 2 more chances to catch them FREE at the Key Club in Hollywood. They play September 23rd & 30th.

SHOW STOPPERS
Also, this past Saturday I slowed it down a bit and took in a show at the Hotel Cafe. No pix to share, cuz my camera was on the Fritz, but this show was also an amazing one. Pete Francis, a singer/songwriter from NY graced the stage at my favorite venue in Hollywood. Once again, had only heard a song or two on Myspace before the show, but I figured he must be decent if he's at the HC. The Hotel Cafe has seen many many great talented folks come out of there, so their not gonna just let anyone on stage, ya know? Of course, I wasn't disappointed - he had everything a great singer/songwriter needs for great success. Thanks to Erin for the invite and introduction to this talented guy!
Tonight, I will be at the Key Club on Sunset checking out thenewno2, the band that I told you about last week. Come check em out if you can or at least check them out the next few Tuesday in September.
FOOD NOT BOMBS
You might of heard that there were some protests at the recent RNC in Minnesota. Well, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are responding to the police brutality by releasing an EP, and giving back to the people involved. Just $4 for this EP will help the people that were arrested that day and also go directly to Food Not Bombs. If you feel strongly about what happened in Minnesota, I urge you to give up your Starbucks for a day and purchase this EP.

TED LEO AND THE PHARMACISTS RELEASE NEW EP IN RESPONSE TO MINNESOTA POLICE BRUTALITY
Outraged by the police activity in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area surrounding the recent RNC convention, Ted Leo and his band The Pharmacists were drawn to action. From Ted:
“…Real people were hurt in St. Paul, and real people have bills to pay, and real people need funding to continue their good works. We (the band and I) were all feeling these events as deeply as we could from our 1200 mile remove, and so as not to feel entirely powerless, and in an attempt to contribute SOMETHING to that continuation of those good works, we wrote a song and recorded it…”*
Last week, Ted and the band went into his home studio and recorded two new songs, "Paranoia: Never Enough"and "Mourning In America", plus two cover tunes, "I Got Your Number" (originally by Cock Sparrer) and "Nobody's Driving" (Amebix). These four tracks comprise Rapid Response, an EP, recorded quickly, with the intent to bring awareness and financial aid to the people affected by the police brutality in Minnesota.
Rapid Response is available now for an exclusive two-week window via Touch and Go Records www.touchandgoreords.com for $4.00, with other donation options available for those who would like to contribute an additional amount.
After the two week period, Rapid Response will be available for single track purchase at online retailers (Itunes, Amazon et al), as well as the Touch and Go Records website.
All proceeds from this EP will go directly to Food Not Bombs Minneapolis and Democracy Now and the legal fees for those who have been arrested.
“This isn't meant to be some grand sweeping statement on our part - it's just a way for us to contribute SOMETHING real to the lives of real human beings, and show our material support for those whose actions and thoughts we value in this ideological struggle.”
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are about to embark on a 25 date tour supporting the like-minded, socially conscious punk band Against Me!. After that, TLRX headlines a string of dates, mainly in swing states across the US. Of special note, on the eve of election night 2008, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists will play a show at Buskirk Chumley Theater in Bloomington, Indiana. Here’s hoping we’ve got even more to celebrate that evening.

IN THE SPIRIT
Another one bites the dust...the weekend that is. Ugh...just one more day is all I need. Why can't there be 4 day work weeks? If I was the Prez (no not PEREZ) that's the first thing I would change! So, I picked up the Delta Spirit album over the weekend, that was recently release on August 26th. I am obsessed and I can't stop playing it! It was the soundtrack to my weekend.
Get to know this San Diego band that has been dubbed as a “hybrid of rock and northern soul” or as an "Americana/soul" group.
The raw spirit of indie rock. An amplified, rocking version of ’60s protest folk. The soulful passion of the Violent Femmes and the Waterboys. All of these comparisons have been made in attempts to describe Delta Spirit, the southern California five-piece who might just be one of the most important new bands of the decade. Each description contains elements of the truth, but the real answer to the question “who is Delta Spirit?” lies within Ode to Sunshine, the band’s captivating debut. The group’s DIY ethic shines throughout the album, with songs honed razor-sharp over a year of non-stop touring across America. Opening sold-out tours for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Cold War Kids, and Dr. Dog, the band developed a riveting live show and gained a loyal following amongst tastemaker music fans, earning them invites to national festivals like Austin City Limits, Noise Pop and Sasquatch. So it would not be an understatement to call Ode to Sunshine one of the year’s most highly-anticipated debuts. But don’t take our word for it; in the words of Delta Spirit: “If you’re feeling what I’m feeling come on, all you soul searching people come on.”

KINGS OF SEX
