FRITZ HELDER AND THE PHANTOMS CONTEST!

Toronto based electro-pop outfit Fritz Helder & The Phantoms are celebrating the release of their debut album, Greatest Hits: Platinum Edition, with a hotly-anticipated performance at Cinespace on Tuesday, July 7th.

This special event is being hosted by Nelly Furtado, who is releasing the band's debut on her newly formed indie record label Nelstar Music. Fritz Helder & The Phantoms break convention effortlessly and often by blending together funk, disco, pop and hip-hop on their debut album as well as mixing energetic choreography and envelope-pushing costume work into their live performances.

FILTER Magazine stated that, "Canadian indie collective, Fritz Helder & The Phantoms, are as provocative to the eye as [they are] behind the microphone." Songs off their debut album, Greatest Hits incorporate their avant-garde style with titles such as "Lagerfeld Lady," which pays tribute to fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, the vaudevillian "Sex Robot" and the tongue-in-cheek ode to Anna Wintour, "You Ain't Vogue." The June/July 2009 issue of OUT Magazine stated, "The Phantoms have evolved into an electro-funk outfit channeling 1980's era Prince [and] are pros at extracting glamour from DIY ingenuity."

SUMMERS AT THE BOWL

The Hollywood Bowl (http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/) has kicked off its 88th summer season, full of can’t-miss outdoor performances. Don’t miss Grace Jones, along with Of Montreal, and Dengue Fever, on Sunday July 26th, as part of the KCRW World Festival.
Legendary new wave disco dominatrix Grace Jones (www.myspace.com/gracejonesofficial) makes her Bowl debut, touring in support of her first studio effort in 19 years, Hurricane. Jones says that her latest album, out now on Wall of Sound, was not a planned affair. “Hurricane was an accident. Blame it on Ivor Guest. I'd decided never to do an album again…we had a creative chemistry and the music just flowed.”
Creative indie rockers, Of Montreal (www.myspace.com/ofmontreal), bring their flair to the stage, playing tracks off their latest release, Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?
Pop-rock outfit Dengue Fever (www.myspace.com/denguefevermusic) will also take the stage, fresh off the release of their documentary, "Sleepwalking Through The Mekong". All releases are available now. Tickets still available!

REMEMBERING MJ

Many artists have been influenced in different ways by the King of Pop - many reactions have been flowing in, including one from Chris Cornell. Check out a cover of "Billy Jean" from Chris.

Cornell’s Twitter: Driving from Poland to Berlin. Just Heard Michael Jackson died. Makes me sad. I remember the Jackson 5 on a black and white tv. He had magic!

Also, another cover of "Billy Jean" from The Lost Fingers.

THE NATIONAL ARE COMING, THE NATIONAL ARE COMING!!

See The National live, August 29th @ The Wiltern!

After a series of stops, performing primarily at festivals throughout Canada and the United States, the Brooklyn based entourage are making a stop here in Los Angeles, Saturday, August 29th at The Wiltern Theater. They started off this short tour at the Radio City Music Hall promoting a compilation album "Dark Was The Night"to benefit the Red Hot organization which raises money and awareness for HIV and AIDS. Together with 4AD Records, The National produced this 2 CD compilation featuring such artists as The Decemberits, Bon Iver, Cat Power, Andrew Bird, The New Pornographers and many, many more, some of which accompanied them at this NYC performance. Now they are off on their own, once again only hitting a few stops, so if they stop by near you, GO!

As most of you may know, The National are one of my top favorite bands and put on an unforgettable show! Tickets are are sale now. Check them out! www.myspace.com/thenational or at www.americamary.com
