Angus & Julia Stone recently played the U.S. with a stop at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, where I had the chance to see them perform songs from their latest album. Now A&J are back in Australia playing to their hometown fans.

CALENDAR OF EVENTS
TONIGHT is the return of The National!! It's been since Coachella like 3 years ago when I saw the band last, we also had that moment at the House of Blues in San Diego when Cory (staff writer) met the band and had a moment with them when they sang Happy Birthday to him. I'm super excited to see them tonight, their new CD is AMAZING! The band continues to grow with each album & continue to blow me away with their talent. We will have a full review next week.
Also, we have a super busy musical week - kicking it off with The Uglysuit. The Uglysuit is a band out of Oklahoma that I've been wanting to see for years. If you don't know this band, you gotta check em out! The band has 2 gigs next week in LA - a night at the Hotel Cafe as well as the famous Viper Room on the Sunset Strip. www.myspace.com/theuglysuit
Let's not forget they dynamic Australian duo, Angus & Julia Stone. They are returning to Hollywood for a 2 night stint at the Cemetery. I believe they also have a FREE show at a record store in Long Beach and another show they added in Venice.
It all adds up to the BIG Sasquatch Festival weekend in Washington. More details to come...

COACHELLA COACHELLA COACHELLA

video is not working - click link above!
Hooray, we finally made it to Coachella weekend!! I can't believe how quickly it came this year...seriously, this year is flying by! Anyway, Ill be heading down to the desert tomorrow for a little fun in the HOT SUN. I'll be stopping by the Ace Hotel after I catch my block of bands at the Outdoor Theatre. There are a ton of parties going on, so Ill be sure to tweet about how much fun I'm having!
I wanted to include this video and make a plea to the producers of Coachella about this AMAZING band. Angus & Julia Stone, a brother/sister duo from Australia should be playing this weekend, but are no where to be found on this weekend's bill. I'm sure it just had to do with scheduling conflicts, so hopefully they can make it next year. This dynamic duo is a perfect fit for the Coachella Fest. Check out a live version of their song "Big Jet Plane" off their latest release DOWN THE WAY.

WORLD PREMIERE VIDEO - ANGUS & JULIA STONE
Another video has been release from Angus & Julia Stone. It's animated, which I'd have to say I'm not usually a big fan. I don't want to see an animated music video, I want to see that actual artist. I dunno...great song, but not loving the vid. Whateves. I still heart A&J!

A LETTER FROM ANGUS AND JULIA STONE
My favorite Aussies just sent a letter to all their fans. I can't wait for their upcoming album and a U.S. tour that is in the works. Take a peep at their letter.

hello...
it is a strange thing to write a letter to you. our manager, cathy, asked us if we would like to write a
personal note when she went to send out the information about the new record... and i thought that
perhaps it would be something i might like to do. i like writing letters to my friends when we are
away-and you have become, in some way, a friend of ours, so this can be something like that... a letter to a friend to tell you what we have been doing...or at least a little bit about how this record came to be made.
the songs have been written all over the place... in stormy corners of backstage rooms and rusty windows of old hotels in sleepy towns...they have been written in the back yard at our dad's place in avalon-and in the heart of lands where we are truly strangers...and places where we have felt like visitors... drifting through without more than a few words to a local farmer....or just a few chords to a sleepy highland cow.....i could be more specific, but you know how specifics take up space-and do you really want to know about the waxed table tops and dolly parton fan clubs?
the recording of the record happened also over two years in different places between tours.....the place where my heart skipped beats, and i think angus feels the same, is the little town of golant, where we found the studio 'sawmills'-- a converted old sawmill that you had to access by boat on the high tide...we had been living in east london and had been playing festivals here and there... we had a couple of weeks off, a few hundred songs in our hearts.... we wanted to see the ocean and record music at the same time.....so we drove down past stonehenge on our regular south bound route to the ocean and settled in by the river foye...... we cooked, we drank tea...and we made music... we recorded 'the devil's tears', 'walk it off', 'black crow', 'yellow brick road', 'for you' and 'on the road'- plus other tracks that didn't make the record like 'the wedding song' and 'take you away'-we had with us clay and mitch- laying down the drums and bass for these tracks...a great engineer who lived onsite, tom...so our gang was a joyous one... when we ran out of food we jumped in the green canoe and paddled twenty minutes into the beautiful town of foye at the river mouth..... it is just too much to put into words the feeling of looking out across the cornish countryside and over the sparkling ocean, whilst castles lingered on the edge of it all, tempted to swim with the seals....
we then went on tour with martha wainwright in europe... it was a great tour for many reasons... she is something extraordinary'-a strong woman, a beautiful woman... - she also toured with a great band- which was where we met matt johnson and brad albetta who we ended up recording with us down the track in new york...eeek... how can i squeeze this all into a regular sized e-mail... now that i've started i want to tell you about it all.... the garden with the ducks... the roof tops of barcelona.......
after the europe tour we went on tour in the states and canada-...at the end of a couple of months in a bus with 12 boys... we ended up at brad's studio in brooklyn, where we recorded 'hush,' 'i'm not yours', 'draw your swords' and 'and the boys'-with matt on drums and kimon on bass (a great bass player, who we had a random jam with at a friend's house when we were visiting los angeles)... then to queens with another rowdy gang at the buddy project where we recorded 'hold on', then to battery park at rob and janie's home where we played 'santa monica dream' and 'old friend' in the home studio in angus' room late at night when the city was kind of quiet......-and then back in the water tank with finny up in coolangatta for 'big jet plane' .....
i am going to stop now... not because i don't want to tell you everything-- more perhaps because i am starting to feel the strange sensation of trying to squeeze elephants into size six ballet slippers and teach them to tango.....all these places and people need books written about them... they have all taken such good care of us... we both hope you enjoy this record---as much as we have enjoyed making it...
with love from,
julia (and angus)

ANGUS AND JULIA STONE CONFIRMED FOR
KCRW’S OFFICIAL SXSW SHOWCASE
"[A Book Like This] flickers with the prospects of two talented musicians who work together wonderfully...the two maintain individual identities despite the close collaboration, and as much as one voice differs from the other -- hers, a worthy and eccentric amalgamation of Newsom and Bjork, and his, a lasting crisp and clear spark -- in the moments they meld together, it's easy to forget everything you know about sibling rivalry." – Filter Magazine
February 17, 2009 (New York, NY) – Aussie brother/sister duo ANGUS AND JULIA STONE will make their SXSW debut next month as part KCRW’s Official Showcase on Wednesday, March 18; other bands on the bill include Ida Maria, School of Seven Bells and Port O’Brien. The Platinum selling pair will also appear on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic on Monday, March 9 in celebration of their North American debut album A BOOK LIKE THIS, out March 3.
Paste Magazine recently included Angus and Julia in their “10 New Artists To Watch in 2009” round-up, saying, “[Angus and Julia Stone] make a compelling pair...Together, they've crafted A Book Like This, an album of delicately constructed folk songs, some lushly orchestrated (the absolutely gorgeous ‘Silver Coin’), others with twinges of jazz (on ‘Private Lawns’)."
The duo has also become known for their intimate, charming and bewitching live show, selling out headline dates from Australia to London. Upon the their first visit to the States at the end of 2008, they sold out shows in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego—their first set of dates ever in the US. ARTISTS TO WATCH
I was listening to KCRW one morning and I heard them play a song called "Chocolates and Cigarettes" from Angus & Julia Stone. I was instantly taken by their music, both lyrically and vocally. Hailing from the northern beaches of Sydney, Australia, Angus & Julia Stone form two halves of a brother/sister folk musical act.You definitely need to get to know these 2...I see a BRIGHT 09 for A&JS. They are set to kick off a string of U.S. dates in March, along with their FULL album release.
