Calexico is back with their latest album CARRIED TO DUST. Calexico stopped by KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic to perform songs off their latest album.

CARRIED TO DUST...

...is the name of Calexico's 16th album. Yes 16th!! This Tucson, Arizona group of gents fuse together so many different sounds from country, folk, indie, emo, to good ol' rock 'n roll. I had the pleasure of listening to their new album, and have to say that it doesn't skip a beat. Being a fan, they still have 'their' sound, but this album takes them to a whole other level. Try track 3, 'The News About William', which is a favorite of mine, thus far. Carried to Dust will be released TOMORROW, so run out and grab a copy or download it on your iTunes.

TWO SILVER TREES - VIDEO PREMIERE

I recently posted two brief album trailer videos that showcased some scenes around Calexico’s home base of Tucson, AZ. The first trailer was composed of visuals highlighting the city's local color, and the second stood on the stark impressiveness of an airplane graveyard.

Directed by James Fleischel, the full music video for “Two Silver Trees” is impressive in its own right, and acts as the logical marriage between the teaser clips. Elements from both are more fleshed out, and we get a deeper feel for the wide range of Tucson's character: what starts at the cozy confines of the Hotel Congress Tap Bar ends in an expansive and extraordinary desert scene.

NEW CALEXICO

It's new music Tuesday, yet we still have until September 9th for the release of their upcoming album. However, I do have a little treat for you Calexico fans. A new song has been sent my way to hold us over for the next few months.

The song "Two Silver Trees" is fairly indicative of what’s to come from Calexico throughout the whole of their new full-length album Carried To Dust from the scene-setting, warmly reposed intro to the catchy, more powerfully constructed chorus.

“Two Silver Trees” is a collaboration of sounds and ideas and what results of the unique parts is one cohesive, familiar feel.

Two years after Garden Ruin, Calexico has returned and is offering up Carried To Dust, the new full-length record due September 9, 2008.

For Carried To Dust, Calexico co-founders Joey Burns and John Convertino called on a rotating cast of musicians and friends to help them create what is arguably their most varied and strongest work to date. The band lineup that solidified around Feast of Wire (Burns, Convertino, Martin Wenk, Jacob Valenzuela, Paul Niehaus, Volker Zander) is back again, along with a number of guests, including Sam Beam, Douglas McCombs, and Pieta Brown.

This new record is a shining example of Calexico's commitment to constantly molting and redefining who they are. A continued examination of their sources of inspiration, Carried To Dust is the next step in Calexico's ongoing quest of moving forward while never turning its back on the past.

Along with extending the collaborative bridges with other artists, Carried To Dust also reflects Calexico's amazing live shows, as well as underscoring the band's restraint and beauty. A remarkably well-rounded album, Carried To Dust showcases every aspect of Calexico's exceptional talents.
