SILVERSUN PICKUPS UNPLUGGED

Silversun Pickups were recently invited to be a part of the newly resurrected fan-favorite MTV "Unplugged" and the quartet happily accepted. Their intimate performance is now available exclusively at MTV.com, which features 6 songs, including "Panic Switch," "Lazy Eye" and "Kissing Families."

Clips from this "Unplugged" session are also airing all this week on MTV's AMTV morning music block. "Panic Switch" remains in steady rotation at MTV, MTV2 as well as MTV Hits, while it continues its charge at Modern Rock radio.The band is currently spreading their gospel across Europe and will return for a brief US run, along with several festival appearances, in August.

SILVERSUN PICKUPS HIT #1 WITH PANIC SWITCH

It’s been 11 years since an independent artist ranked #1 on Billboard’s Hot Modern Rock Songs chart and today, Silversun Pickups are the proud new title-holders.

Lead single “Panic Switch,” from Swoon, has impressively jumped over tracks from Linkin Park and Green Day, which were also in the running. This is truly a triumphant day for Dangerbird and the band, as only three songs by artists on independently distributed labels have reached this position.

The quartet is currently making their way across Europe and will return in August for festival appearances, as well as a string of newly announced tour dates.

Silversun Pickups stunned the world with their fuzz-laden debut album Carnavas in 2006. It's been a long wait for their newest release, but finally, Swoon has hit the shelves and has cemented the band's reputation. The band consists of neighborhood friends Brian Aubert (vocals), Nikki Monninger (bass), Joseph Lester (keyboards), and Christopher Guanlao (drums). After Carnavas became such a hit, the band went on an extended tour to support the album, but things weren't all rosy when they returned. Aubert says, "It was a dark time when we got back. We had to water the relationships that we had neglected over those two years, and I think this darkness came out on our new record." They rebuilt those relationships to create another successful record. "It can be lonely here, because the city is so disconnected," Aubert explains, "but here you can also escape the noise of the city into your own house, your own private place. But we're all connected by community."

FIGHT CHILDHOOD CANCER - TOMORROW!

This Thursday, April 30, Silversun Pickups and Eulogies will perform at a very special benefit for Pablo Castelaz and The Pablove Foundation, at the Echoplex in Los Angeles. Tickets are on sale now for $25 via TicketWeb. Purchase will be limited to two tickets per customer and ONLY available through online purchase, with a scheduled will-call pick-up (No walk-ups). All proceeds will directly benefit The Pablove Foundation (pablove.org), named after Pablo Castelaz, the five-year-old son of Dangerbird Records co-founder Jeff Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill.

On May 17, 2008, Pablo was diagnosed with bilateral Wilms’ Tumor, a rare form of children’s cancer, and has been receiving treatment at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (childrenshospitalla.org).

The Pablove Foundation supports cancer research and cancer patient play activities, music and arts programs. Recently, The Pablove Foundation funded a year of evening and weekend hours in the play room on the fourth floor soft tumor units at CHLA. These ‘units’ are actually an entire floor of the hospital, which is filled with brave, beautiful children at any time of the year. This play room brings immeasurable joy to the heart of a child whose life has been turned upside down in the face of a life-threatening disease and whose world has temporarily been reduced to a small hospital room.

The Pablove Foundation also plans to contribute to cancer research and treatment at CHLA, including the efforts of CHLA’s Saban Research Institute, one of the top cancer research facilities in the United States.

This extraordinary evening will offer select items for sale to help commemorate the night and give back to the above noted charities. In addition to an exclusive, limited edition t-shirt, Give. Listen. Help. Volume 5, will be available for purchase. The two-disc benefit compilation CD was released earlier this year by Filter and Urban Outfitters and features an impressive collection of unique material from some of today’s most recognizable artists including Radiohead, Bloc Party, Oasis, as well as the Dangerbird Records roster. Each CD purchase will be accompanied with a free poster, crafted specifically in honor of the evening.

COACHELLA WRAP-UP

I was completely bummed that I wasn't able to attend this years Coachella Festival in Indio, California. I had intended to go, but I ended up going out of town at the last minute, which left me coachless. Also, musicbleep scored an interview with the talented James Morrison, but that fell through at the last minute as well. I guess it just wasn't meant for me this year. Big shout out to Allen for representing and putting on his journalistic hat last minute (even if he didn't get to use it).

It's ok...not upset! There are a ton more festivals in the upcoming month and I plan to attend at least a couple.

Silversun Pickups took over SXSW last week, playing new material off the forthcoming SWOON and old favorites alike, leaving crowds in awe. PANIC SWITCH” TURNED ON AT MODERN ROCK RADIO - #1 MOST ADDED

While Silversun Pickups prepares for their live debut of 2009, lead single “Panic Switch” has earned the #1 Most Added title at Modern Rock Radio this week, earning 24 adds total. The L.A. quartet is quickly shifting into high gear, as the April 14 release of Swoon on Dangerbird Records is lurking just ahead.

The first of two performances at SXSW will be at Stubbs Friday, March 20, for the Guitar Hero® Metallica Event, followed by one at Antone’s Saturday, March 21, at 12:00 a.m. SSPU has asked some local and international friends to join them for their Saturday show: The Duke Spirit (UK), Afternoons (L.A.), The Happy Hollows (L.A.) and The Pity Party (L.A.).

Silversun Pickups once again enlisted producer Dave Cooley and mixer Tony Hoffer for Swoon, the gurus behind Carnavas, to help create a tapestry of romanticism and frenzy. The band continues to enjoy its dichotomous relationship with sound, comfortably weaving from beauty into aggression, whilst dense melodies ricochet off distortion. “Panic Switch,” parades that classic SSPU formula: the steady, searing bass leads the charge, as the guitar falls in, drums march, keys echo, all in salute to Aubert’s sweet, wafting vocals. The accompanying video was recently shot in Los Angeles by Grammy-nominated James Frost, whose credits include Radiohead’s “House of Cards.” MTV News recently offered a sneak peek into the making of Swoon, showcasing the band in the studio and two songs from this forthcoming album.

Silversun Pickups will play a pre-Coachella warm-up show at the Glass House in Pomona, Calif. Sunday, April 12 before helping to usher in the 10^th annual Music and Arts Festival alongside Paul McCartney, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand and Leonard Cohen but will first warm up. The quartet has also been added to The Sasquatch Festival line-up on May 25.
