KCRW WELCOMES ANYA MARINA
Anya Marina started out as a disc jockey in San Diego and was bitten by the music bug after performing her songs at open mic nights. Her intriguing sound glides from seductive to sassy, which we heard live on Morning Becomes Eclectic.

WORLD PREMIERE VIDEO - ANYA MARINA
Premiere week continues here on musicbleep.com with the latest from one of my favorite SoCal girls.
California singer/songwriter Anya Marina just debuted the video for her new single, "All The Same To Me" from her Chop Shop Records debut album, "Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II." Directed by Josh Forbes and filmed at the California Institute of Abnormal Arts (CIA), the video features all kinds of contortionists and fire dancers in a burlesque/circus theme. As Anya explains, the CIA "had all sorts of bizarre things like a mummy of something called Alligator Boy and also a 2-headed baby." Fun fact: Anya had a sprained foot while shooting the video. "Betcha can't tell (thank you, Ibuprofen!)." For more on Anya Marina, visit www.anyamarina.com.

ANYA MARINA @ HOTEL CAFE
"I get weird songs in my head and putting pen to paper is kind of like a diuretic," Anya Marina says about why she writes songs. "If I didn't get them out, they would probably make my mind feel very bloated. And no girl likes to be bloated." Anya Marina
"All the way from Rossmore and Beverly..." is how the adorable Anya Marina opened her show last Thursday at the Hotel Cafe. It was a packed event, as her US tour is about to hit the rest of the US, promoting her latest album "Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II", which dropped last November. You may not be so familiar with her name, but her music you might be, especially if you watch 'Grey's Anatomy', as she has been featured on the show several times. Hailing from the Bay Area, Marina's cute singer/songwriter sound is one all her own, oddly gaining influences from LCD Soundsystem, Peaches, and even Public Enemy. I never would have guessed, but that's what she says.
She had an amazing stage presence and really put on a fantastic, flawless show; not only musically, but she definitely has a very dry comedic side to her that she was not afraid to let out. Between each song she had a story or joke, that would make you belly laugh, and she was so endearing. She performed a good number of songs off of her latest, as well as gracing us with some of her "classics"; however, I was sad that she did not perform her cover of the Three's Company Theme Song, which is off of her "Live at The Casbah" album, but I was content with a hilariously cute rendition of "Whatever You Like" by T.I. ANYA MARINA - TONIGHT AT THE HOTEL CAFE
If you have nothing to do tonight, head over to the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood to catch singer/songwriter Anya Marina. I had the chance to see her at an event for Rockville, CA a few months back, and she left me speechless. So come out and see her tonight!! If you can't make it tonight, you have a few more chances as she's heading out again for a Spring tour.
Anya Marina is reuniting with her tour buddies, The Virgins, for a Spring jaunt. Hitting up a couple cities they missed on their first go-round with Lissy Trullie, the tour will take them from Denver to Orlando. But after a great week in Austin, Anya couldn’t stay away from the road and her fans for too long, so she decided to kick off the tour a little early, prefacing with a handful of dates beginning on the West Coast.
Anya’s live shows have quickly become a staple among music tastemakers with her witty banter and clever covers (she does an acoustic version of T.I.’s “Whatever You Like”), so don’t miss her this time around!

ANYA MARINA ALBUM - $3.99 TODAY ONLY!

I had the opportunity to check this girl out about a month ago for this Rockvill, CA event I attended. She was fantastic live and her CD even better! If you haven’t gotten your copy of Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II, head on over to Amazon.com where you can purchase the record for $3.99 today only!

Anya Marina has added a few more dates to round out her tour, book-ending her debut at this year's SXSW. The loveable chanteuse just wrapped a tour with The Virgins and Lissy Trullie, and will be opening for Greg Laswell once again this time accompanied by fellow folkie, Jay Nash. Anya has been driving herself all over the US (sans tour bus) for the true road trip experience and so fans can see her in action, playing in-stores and coffee houses alike. So, don't miss out on her great live set!
Anya also found time to play a special late-night performance on Jimmy Kimmel. Check out her sultry performance and her edgy new ‘do.

ROCKING OUT AT THE ROCKVILLE, CA TCA

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to check out the Rockville, CA TCA session with the cast and creator of this new upcoming music-themed scripted web series created by Josh Schwartz (“Gossip Girl,” “Chuck,” “The O.C.”).
Basically, a TCA session is a Q&A between the media and cast/creators, etc... I was soo excited to participate in the event, because my Music Supervisor Idol, Alexandra Patsavas ("Gossip Girl", "The O.C., "Grey's Anatomy") was also on the panel.
It started off with a performance by upcoming singer/songwriter Anya Marina performing her song "Move You." It was just a short 30 minute session, but after Anya the cast and creator spoke and we were treated to a preview of Rockville. I actually have access to a few of the episodes; however, I haven't had the chance to check em out.
This show is a groundbreaking, musically driven romantic comedy for TheWB.cm that features the trials and tribulations of a Los Angeles indie music venue, Club Rockville, and its cast of regulars. During each webisode, rousing musical performances by actual up-and-coming rock bands will be featured as selected by Alexandra Patsavas. Bands include Kaiser Chiefs, Phantom Planet, Travis, The Duke Spirit, Eagles of Death Metal, Earlimart, Frightened Rabbit, The Kooks, The Little Ones, Lykke Li, Nico Stai, Passion Pit, White Lies, Anya Marina, Bishop Allen, The Broken West, Cass McCombs, Lights, Oppenheimer and The Republic Tigers. It was filmed entirely at Los Angels indie music venue The Echo, which is transformed into Club Rockville for the show.
I am super excited to check this show out! I will try and post some pictures of the Q&A soon.
The show begins on 3/17/09!!
