ONE DAY FOR CHANGE

Yesterday marked two major events for Matisyahu - the release of his third studio album Light and the launch of his "One Day for Change" campaign.

On Light, fans will find a much broader sound than what Matisyahu has offered in the past. Produced by David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Regina Spektor, Sublime) and Dave McCracken and the Smeezintons (Depeche Mode, Ian Brown), Light is Matisyahu's most diverse album to date. Billboard marveled at its ability to "Push musical boundaries...dipping into everything from guitar driven rockers to stripped down acoustic tunes."
It finds the musician from Crown Heights, Brooklyn displaying his one-of-a-kind voice in a variety of diverse genres, moving through his familiar reggae-soul stylings to dancehall, ska-influenced new wave, pop-rock and acoustic folk.

Always looking to inspire and positively motivate fans - the socially conscious artist has partnered with Kenneth Cole to create an online movement via Twitter and YouTube encouraging people to share ideas to positively change their communities in one day.

"One Day for Change" asks fans, as well as celebrities, websites, and musicians, to tweet their "ideas for change" using the #ondaychange.net hash tag. Matisyahu will re-tweet his favorites on his own Twitter (which now has over 720,000 followers) and award a signed copy of Light to one tweeter each day. Participants are also encouraged to upload videos expressing their ideas for change to the "One Day for Change" YouTube page between August 25th and September 18th.

On September 25th, a grand prize winner from the video uploads will be announced on OneDayChange.net. The site, built by Republic Project, features all of the video submissions, tweets, and exclusive content for the initiative and can be visited to view the latest entries. The winner will receive a Matisyahu branded camera provided by Flip Cam, and Matisyahu and Kenneth Cole will donate $5,000 towards the charity of the winning entrant's choice. Other participants who upload videos will have a chance to win 1 of 4 Matisyahu branded cameras provided by Flip Cam.

"Consciousness and positivity spread like a wave." Matisyahu explains, "It starts with one person doing one good thing and links like a chain, going from one positive thing to the next."
Be part of the solution - tweet your ideas for "One Day for Change".

SECRET SHOW!

M.I.A. is doing a secret show in Downtown Los Angeles tonight. You had to purchase your tickets yesterday, but I'm trying to get a hookup! Keep you posted.

ECLECTIC AIR WAVES

On Labor Day, September 7, 2009, KCRW will launch Eclectic24 -- a new, online, all-music channel blending the collected talents and tastes of all the station’s DJs into a single voice streaming 24 hours a day. Always on, no time slots, no appointment needed – just the best of KCRW whenever and wherever you want it. The stream will encompass the whole scope of the public radio station’s musical footprint over the last 30 years, integrating musical discoveries from across KCRW’s talented team of DJs -- favorite new releases, the best of our rich live performance archives -- with the voices of numerous musical icons that have appeared on the station over the years.

The new channel will debut – on air at KCRW 89.9 FM and online at KCRW.com – on Monday, September 7 from 9am to midnight (with a break for All Things Considered from 5 to 7pm) and into the early morning on September 8.

“Music fans still want to be surprised and turned on to something completely unexpected -- that’s the beauty of radio. What’s special about this new channel is that it combines those fresh ideas with the rich history of our station in a non-stop music stream for our fans worldwide,” said KCRW Music Director and host of Morning Becomes Eclectic Jason Bentley. “Our online-only music stream is already one of the chief reasons people visit KCRW.com and Eclectic24 will truly reflect the essence of everything that we are, musically.”

Eclectic24’s programming curator is current KCRW DJ and former Music Director Chris Douridas, who is tapping into the station's vast and ever-growing digital library of over 500,000 songs and its exclusive archive of 2000+ live performances and interviews, as well as exclusive KCRW music features like the Guest DJ Project and Today’s Top Tune (KCRW’s free song a day).

The impact of Santa Monica-based public radio station KCRW has always reached far beyond the community in which it is based, with listeners streaming the station in more than 180 countries – from Singapore and Iceland to Ghana and Peru. The station’s move online in 1998 and early foray into podcasting exposed a huge international audience to our programming and Eclectic24 cements KCRW’s place as a unique and vital resource for independent music discovery.

After the Labor Day premiere, Eclectic24 will be available online, all the time, at www.kcrw.com/eclectic24 and by clicking the ALL MUSIC tab at the top of KCRW’s home page.

R.E.M. LIVE AT THE OLYMPIA

Living Well Is The Best Revenge

R.E.M. will release a brand-new double live album, entitled R.E.M. Live At The Olympia on October 27th, 2009 via Warner Bros. Records. The two-CD set, produced by Jacknife Lee, features 39 songs that capture the best moments from the band’s 2007 “working rehearsals” at Dublin’s fabled Olympia club where singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, and bassist Mike Mills tested out new songs for R.E.M.’s 2008 studio album Accelerate.

The material was tested were five nights before fired-up, capacity crowds comprised of fan-club members, friends, family, and fans from all over the world who were privy to R.E.M.'s so-called “experiment in terror,” as guitarist Peter Buck puts it. “We were just trying to do something we hadn't done before," Buck says, "which meant there was no relaxing during the set. Every second we were playing something we didn't know all that well. Which was kind of good — there were all kinds of terror elements going on during that show."

BOYS OF SUMMER

For my birthday I got tix to see one of my favorite bands, Kings of Leon. I just recently became a fan of their music ever since the release of ONLY BY THE NIGHT. The band is HUGE in the UK and in Australia and finally have reached that status in the states.

So on Saturday night we headed out to the Forum in Los Angeles to check out KOL. I had such a great time, but I must say I could have done without the opening band, The Whigs. Not a fan... Anyhoo...KOL hit the stage and played hits from their latest record including "Sex on Fire", "Notion" and "Use Somebody." Amazeballs!!

And I just wanna say that I couldn't be happier for this bands' success. They were soooo humble and sweet. They kept thanking the crowd for being there and supporting their career; you could tell how much they cared through their perfomance, which was astonishing, and that's what made it even more special. Great night, great band, great b-day gift...
